GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. — Law enforcement officials have confirmed the remains found during a search near the South Carolina coast last week are the remains of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel, who mysteriously disappeared in 2009.
The remains were found in the woods in Georgetown County during the search on Wednesday and Thursday, according to WCIV.
Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver confirmed the discovery during a press conference on Monday afternoon from the Georgetown County Judicial Center.
Raymond Moody, a resident of Georgetown County and a convicted sex offender, was arrested last week and charged with obstruction of justice in Georgetown County, according to WSOC-TV.
Investigators said Moody is now accused of burying Drexel. His charges include rape, murder and kidnapping, according to officials.
Drexel, from Rochester, New York, disappeared in April 2009 while visiting family members on a trip to Myrtle Beach. She was last seen leaving the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard on April 25, 2009.
Moody was identified as a person of interest early on in the investigation into her disappearance, but law enforcement did not have enough evidence to mark him as a definitive suspect.

i’m thinking they got a confession. That would have been the only way the would have found her remains. Sad but good for the family to get some closure. Growing up seeing her billboard all these years on our Myrtle Beach trips always created a higher sense of awareness.

The used by a bunch of guys statement was a false statement given by an inmate in McCormick. The story always had holes. He told them that they dumped her body in a gator pits near santee. I’m he state search many pits but never found her.

I remember there was a strong rumor that she was kidnapped by some black people and held in house in the country, McClellanville I believe, where she was raped and then at one point tried to run away when she saw an opening and was shot in the head and fed to gators. That's what some dude told law enforcement many years later. They investigated and just couldn't prove it. There were a lot of people who believed that non factual story. Anyway, glad that monster who killed her is off the streets.

A couple of facts, she ran off with her boyfriend to go Spring Break. Her mother told her she wasn't allowed to go, but she took off anyway. Anyway, she was blind in one eye and only 5ft tall. Her boyfriend should have never let her walk home alone.
