Bowl sponsors and payouts

Dec 28, 2021, 4:44 PM

Having football and basketball games cancelled is not new in the age of COVID but Bowls are dropping like flies. Most of the games are televised on ESPN and companies buy ad time and the Bowls have sponsors so what happens when a game is cancelled? Do the commercials run on whatever ESPN plugs in? Do the conferences and independent teams still get their cut for cancelled games. I guess for fans who bought tickets through a ticket broker, the money would only be refunded if insurance was purchased. Sad times for all the players who busted their tails to get ready for the game so hopefully their gift packages were good.

Cancelling games if you don’t have enough players

Dec 28, 2021, 5:06 PM

who feel good and healthy enough to play is one thing. But if they are saying a player that is asymptomatic who tested positive for Covid cannot play, that is just wrong. That is overreacting to something that rarely causes death or any long term effects. There are therapeutics and treatments now that lessen the impact and duration too.

It is beyond time for society to get on with living and quit worrying about possibly dying!

Hard to disagree with your thoughts. The US has had over 53 million cases and only 820,000 deaths. I say only but of course if our family suffered one of those deaths, we would have a different opinion.

Cancel all bowl games. They serve no purpose

Disagree. Bowls are cheap holiday programming.

They are now pretty much made for tv / streaming exhibitions.

Maybe we should have an “alliance challenge” instead of bowl

Dec 28, 2021, 6:57 PM [ in reply to Re: Cancelling games if you don’t have enough players ]

Let the CFP choose their teams, however many that might be, then take the top 6 remaining teams in the each of the ACC-B1G-PAC, and match them up for the Alliance Cup. Conference with the best record wins bragging rights. Three ACC-PAC matchups, three PAC-B1G, and three B1G-ACC.

Regular season matters for qualifying for the Cup, and the postseason games matter for pride. SEC can have their CFP participant(s), and the rest of their teams can POUND SAND. Their superior players who couldn’t win their way into the CFP can go prepare for the draft.

All about the money, that's all.I can do without them as I have a life to live, but so many people seem to have nothing better to do.

Oh, these teams have enough healthy players.

but if too many of their best players are out they will fold to avoid what they believe would be a greater humiliation on the field. Dabo says we would play even if it’s just our backups. That’s Clemson.

How long until sponsors figure out that the investment is not worth it? Who am I kidding - corporate America will never realize their marketing budget is just a toilet for flushing away money.

People do anything to save from paying taxes and corporations make so much money they can't spend it all.
