Quick downtime discussion. We give Dabo a lot of credit

and rightfully so. However, do you think our ability to have back-to-back 10-win seasons is a tribute to Dabo and his staff and the ability they have to turn this around?...or...Is our back-to-back 10-win seasons just a microcosm of how bad the ACC really is now compared to Bowden's tenure when he stalled at 9 wins on three occasions? Thoughts on both. Be interested to see the repsonses to try and figure whether we are the same team in a watered down conference or if we are truly turning the corner.

The eye test still tells me we still out-athlete other teams, just like we did under Bowden.
There were several games this year where we struggled to average 3.5 yards per carry against some pretty bad competition, indicating a lack of either 1) strength 2) physicality or 3) motivation along the offensive line.
The eye test also tells me that our defense isn't nearly as good as it used to be (with the exception of 2010)
We can basically outrun people. Nothing I've seen indicates that we would be able to consistently compete against top teams.

All good pts. I would point out, I myself, cant recall a dominant team being made up of sophomores and freshman. This I feel bodes well for the next two yrs and beyond.

Dabo is an upper-mid level coach. The down ACC is definitely part since he can't seem to beat the highly ranked teams. But Morris and the offense certainly are upper level bordering on elite at times.

Nuk, Sammy, and Boyd here. If Bowden had these guys, he'd still be coaching.

The ACC is down no doubt, but the difference is that we appear to have purged the tendency to play down to the level of our competition.
10 regular season wins, regardless of the competition, confirms one thing - consistency. Consistency was what the Bowden teams lacked most. There will always be swings from game to game - even the best teams don't play their best every week - however, one of the goals for every team is to minimize the difference between the best and weakest performances. I think we're doing that, and we should expect to see the same kind of consistency next year, along with overall improvement.

Bowden barely beat or got beat by teams we should crush

Dabo and crew demolish the teams we should beat. Now we just need to get to the point where we should be beating everyone on our schedule. Frankly, I think if we could improve both the O and D line we'd be there. We led a decent amount of the game against FSU and we were in the USuc game a lot more than the score shows.

In all but a few cases, most every team drops

a game it should have won (on paper) or could have won (minus some mistakes). Oregon, KSU, Alabama, FSU, Georgia - all of them are very good teams, and all of them had head scratching losses.
The goal at every program is to create the most complete team possible, and then compete at the highest level possible week-in and week-out. And it is an incredibly difficult task, even at an elite program. At 10-2, even with our disappointing losses, I think we're in good shape for the future.
