earned one during my first tour in Vietnam. Given our military heritage and in honor of all who are remembered in the Scroll of Honor across from Memorial Stadium, I am glad Clemson University has one game where the team and many fans wear purple.

referred to as orange "pants" not britches. UGA had a "red" or "silver britches" thing going on, but I always usually only heard references to orange "pants." Now suddenly, the "britches" thing has come up. But it sounds so redneck and UGA-ish, I'll stick with "pants."

In 1991, Clemson broke out purple for the first time since the 1940's. They wore them vs. NC State, and then in the Citrus Bowl vs. Cal.
Since then, there has been:
2003 @ Georgia Tech (W, 39-3)
2008 vs. SC State (W, 54-0)
2008 vs. Maryland (L, 17-20)
So, I guess that makes the Tigers 3-2 in the purple/White combo. Now, the ole thing about "since the 40's" makes me wonder what, exactly the combo options were back then. You can find old photos of Banks McFadden, during the Jess Neely era, of uniforms that are all dark - what looks like dark blue or purple. And maybe it was often orange over purple like the throwbacks they wore in '95 and'96. But I'm unclear as to whether there were ever any white pants back in the 40's or prior.

the north upper deck we could see the players getting on the bus with the purple jerseys on, and you could hear the news spreading throughout the stadium during the time it took them to drive around to the hill. They had changed into them after warmups. They wore white pants.

I think it was after the 2006 GT Gameday game that I began to appreciate the solid purple uniforms —provided we don't wear them any more than once a year. Purple jersey with orange pants is probably my least favorite combination, but I don't hate it. If it was a division clinching game on military appreciation day then I suppose that would be the correct combination.

I love the all purple. Always have but it's not and will never be better than all orange. Players have always loved it since whenever we started it. I remember back in the 2000's, if we wore all purple for big games, we knew defense was gonna play with a a fire under their rears. But I like this tradition as well.
Fun fact: Purple is the color of royalty.
Anyway, flame away. All purple supporter here.
