Need advice - Boone NC

We will be at App State next weekend watching our son and the Clemson Club Swim team compete next week, and would appreciate some input on good places to go watch the game.

I know Blacksburg is only 2.5-3 hours away, but our hotel is back in Boone.

Anyone know the area?

The Town Tavern in Blowing Rock has loads of TVS and beer but it gets packed so get there early. In Boone, The Local in Boone has plenty of beer and a few TVs with a few good menu items. At the other end of the parking lot, Cafe Portofino is more of a college bar with a smallish sports bar area well equipped with TVs.

There are lots of cool hiking opportunities all over the area.
