There's a lot that could be said. But I trust Dabo. Gotta stay with the guy that brought us to the heights. The portal, I mean don't we all know that it's corrupt as can be? No QB worth his salt hits the portal w/o having a plan or even a deal?

That’s not really true. We have one hitting the portal named Maalik Murphy and he just wants to play. He’s not going to beat out Arch Manning, s9 he’s hitting the portal. He’s not corrupt in anyway and is a great kid. QB is the one position that’s just going to have guys in it that just want to be the guy.
But, we also got a WR from Georgia that’s originally from Houston and has a little girl there and wanted to be closer to her. The portal is not all about corruption and cheating and some good kids have been in it such as some of your own guys. Helms just wants to play and who can blame him.

I’m not necessarily arguing with the points you make, but let me ask you a question. The coaches are coming out saying it will cost you at least $1 million dollars (of NIL) to get a highly touted portal QB. That IS NOT Helms situation. That IS Maalik’s situation…right? Technically, that IS against the rules. You are not supposed to use NIL to recruit, from either HS or the portal. But so many teams are doing it with no repercussions. So I get that Maalik just wants playing time. Are you saying he will not take NIL offers or promises of $1 million+ into consideration when choosing his new school where he will find his playing time? You see how your entire argument falls apart? Yes, there are kids who just want playing time or want to be closer to family, but the highly touted ones ARE going to be tampered with and they ARE going to be offered big $ (pay for play). Your arguments likely hold true for players like Helms, who likely will find playing time by going to a much smaller school.

I'm not certain a Maalik will command a mil after coming in at 3rd team probably after the next spring ball. I know y'all think Arch is overrated and is only the Manning name, but he's really good and can throw on the run which Maalik can't or won't.
Outside of Dillon Gabriel, Riley Leonard, Kyle McCord and maybe Will Howard, there's not that many big time QBs in the portal. Most are guys that failed and looking for a new home.
Bo Nix got run out of Auburn and the Ducks didn't have to give him much. DJ isn't going to get much and most of the others are like Helms.
I'm not disagreeing with you, just saying it's maybe not completely corrupt. There's some guys playing at smaller schools looking to see if they can make it in the big leagues, but most are big league players not actually playing and looking for opportunities. Just saying.

I am less concerned about a QB coming out of the portal but think completely skipping the 2024 cycle is a mistake. Injuries, misevaluations and outgoing transfers happen all the time. Hebert missed the whole season so he missed the usual HS junior season jump most prospects make. Our QB room is light and has cycle gaps that goes back to Bubba Chandler deciding to play baseball. This is why there was no real QB2 this year. Need someone to push Cade but that won't happen now.

It was proven last year we have our QB the next 2 years in Klubnik, no need in bringing in another guy to make Cade think he’s not the QB, Last thing we need is someone challenging Cade all offseason, that would never do

Every top program brings in a QB1 each cycle, they all do it. If there is a prospect or individual on the roster who doesn't understand or like why this is imperative, I am not sure they are wired to be a true D1 QB1. Just my 2 cents. Way too many injuries, misses and transfers to think otherwise.

We've been very fortunate that the injury bug hasn't crept into the qb room. Cade does run a good bit. It sounds like Vizz is a little further along than what's been speculated. Which is good news. Same with gunslinger Trent.
I was kinda hoping that uncle Zeb would give us that scholly back so we could use it other places. Especially if we pick up a pwo. Kinda like Dabo said, if we get to having to use Trent, then we're in trouble anyway. So I don't have a problem with it.

So much for the motto " Best is the Standard " when it appears you have a head coach who seems to be hesitant about bringing in another QB because his current QB1 may be afraid of the competition. I saw nothing in Cade to make me think he has the skills to lead Clemson to a championship. CDS throws around the adjectives like " Baller, tough, gritty, etc.." to describe Cade but what Cade lacks is things you can't coach....Athleticism & Speed. Anyone who thinks Cade progressed during the season is delusional. A college QB who progressed during the season was Jaylen Milroe. Not a Bama fan but I give credit where it's due. Anyone who thinks you can win a championship with Cade as QB is really drinking the Kool-aid of delusion.

He started 14 games as a redshirt freshman without having taken a single snap as a freshman (unless ESPN and Sports Reference have their records wrong). His performance was good enough to get us to the ACC Championship for the first time in its inception. He was injured on a blatantly dirty hit. Good to know he meets you standard for mockery.

Well good, that saved me some time. I can stop posting about QBs becoming available in the portal now that Uncle Paul is on the job.
Dabo sees all of these guys in practice and I don't, so I'm just going to hope that Cade takes a big leap this offseason in his growth and development and that translates on the field next season, and pray that he stays healthy all season.

I think all we can do is just trust Dabo . Personally I would have liked to have gone out and gotten another QB just in case something happens but it doesn't seem things will work out that way.
On the bright side, I do believe Matt Luke will have our o line playing much better by next year so that in and of itself should help cade become better

We are paying top dollar for a QB coach/OC who won the Broyles Award and you are telling me he can’t sign a single QB? I’m willing to give him a pass for our offense being trash all season but if he can’t recruit anyone to come play quarterback here then I am officially concerned about the Riley hire.

Dabo is counting on CK2 to deliver in '24 & '25 and not get hurt, with the backup QB's here now, a really bad season would happen if Cade went down.
