When coaches are asked about other jobs...

.... they are in a no win situation. If they say, "I'm not interested in it, period" like Dan Lanning said, then when another job comes open and they don't say the same thing everyone knows they are interested in it.
Of course, they could just lie, "I'm not going to be the next coach at Alabama" like Nick did a couple of days before taking the job.
The best response I have heard from any coach when asked about another job is, "I only talk about the job I have. Next question."
But, it is a journalist's job to poke, prod and ask questions. Don't blame them for asking the question. Just understand that the best answer a coach can give is a non-answer.
Final thought - Dabo ain't going to College Station. Period.

How do so many people on here not understand that Dabo has a clause in his contract that requires that his salary be reviewed periodically and if he falls out of the top 3 in coaches salaries an adjustment will be made to get him back in the top 3? The raises are built in and tied to the market for coaches salaries. No need for a raise to entice him to stay. Now if A&M goes out and pays huge bucks to someone and that affects Dabo’s position on the scale, he will get an increase.

Only if one of them gets a bump or someone new enters the club.
The average for the top 4 salaries could be the same as the average for the top 3 coaches.
I'd assume it's also yearly review and not constantly updated when new numbers are announced.
I guess you would want to be the last guy evaluated for the year, though.

I would hope the review would yield no raise unless we indeed stayed inside the top 3. I don't believe he deserves another raise until we get back to that point. And let me be clear, I hope he stays here for his entire career.

I wouldn't put it past these aTm yahoos to break the bank for the guy they really want. I would not be shocked to see a $15M per year contract for 10 years for the right guy.
However, I do think they might be a little smarter with the guaranteed money/buyout

And I hope Norvell and Elko stay here too. We can become the premier conference... I really believe that.

In terms of public perception regarding the premier conference in college football, this would be extremely difficult with the hype machine (national media) constantly gloating about the SEC and blue blood programs from other conferences.

Conference has gotten better with Norvell, Elko, Mario, and Louisville Brohm, I think. Putz Doern keeps NCSt competitive anyway. Narduzzi seems to put it together sometimes. Clawson gets more out of less. And GT coach seems to be making them a lot better. ACC with additions of West teams, while I don't follow the reasoning, the ACC is as competitive as any conference except maybe SEC, but once again they are top heavy.

it's journalists job to report facts to the public.
Now a days journalist poke, prod.. and when they don't get juicy gossip.. they make crap up to get clicks or push the agenda of their corporate overlords.
There are no ethics in that profession anymore. There is also zero accountability.. unless you offend some social group.

Even Coach Sanders, who is generally not afraid to say anything said, "I just want to win. Let's talk about this week."

A lot of coaches rely on the "I have not had any contact with that school..."
Of course they haven't. Their AGENT is the one working the deal.

Or, after KU lost to Sorrycuse for the national title, Roy Williams telling a CBS reporter (on a 'hot' mic) "I DON'T GIVE A S##T ABOUT THAT JOB!!!!!!"....
He would bolt for UNCheat days later.....

the rumor would prefer him to put himself in a situation where if something changed and he took the position he is now a liar and a legitamized reason to hate him. I am absolutely fine with how Dabo handles this.

including giving him the job when he didn't deserve it, being loyal to him when his teams were underachieving, providing him with outstanding support and resources throughout, and rewarding him with record-setting contracts when he has been successful, I would like to think that Dabo would squash the A&M rumor like Oregon's coach did.
Sure, he could feign interest or keep things vague to try to get more money out of us, but I guess I expect a little more from Dabo at this point. He's supposed to be different, and better, and I don't feel that his response was consistent with that.

further from the truth. He has been nothing but consistent. This is how he answers it every year. I get that we haven't had to deal with that from Brad for some strange reason.

Imagine having practically the same pressure of having the prestige of Bama. Not even a good fit. For those that say Texas has oil money, once you become a multi-multi millionaire is a few more million still going to be life changing? No.
