Big Ten Media Contracts Should Be Ours

With everything that is happening right now with Michigan, Northwestern and Minnesota coupled with the histories of programs like Penn State, Michigan State and Ohio State, does anyone else think that Fox, CBS and NBC might just dump the BIG and give the money to the ACC? I’m sure they have one of those morals clauses in their contracts, right?
I can promise you that even the fans of irrelevant Big Ten schools like Maryland are all cheaters and liars, smack their gum, and don’t wear matching bras and panties even on their boyfriend’s birthdays. I’d rather sit outside and stick my foot in a fire ant mound than watch anything to do with the Big Ten on TV.

That's not how the world works.

I’m not a lawyer but I’m pretty sure that is how those morality clauses work. I really hope the networks were smart enough to include them.
Even if it’s not, the world works in mysterious ways sometimes so I’m not giving up hope this is how it’ll ultimately work out.

When I have my choice of games, I will in this order watch

1. Clemson vs anybody 2. Best vs best from two different conferences (mainly because it's rare) T-3. A showdown between two SEC heavyweights (Bama, UGa, LSU, A&M, Ole Miss, Auburn, UT) T-3. A showdown between two ACC heavyweights (typical candidates: FSU, UNC, Miami, ND) 4. A game the lamec*cks are about to lose 5. Competitive Big XII game 6. Competitive Pac-12 game 7. A regional game that stokes my interest (Coastal, JMU, Old Dominion, FCS game where I know a player or coach) 8. Competitive B1G game
The plodding pace of most B1G games makes me wish I had done something else with my time. And I sure don't enjoy watching tOSU or TTUN beat a weaker sister by 40. Even more frustrating than that is when a Northwestern or Iowa or freaking Rutgers has one of the two dominant teams by the nads, leading in the fourth quarter, and then go on to lose. ESPN shows me the "upset alert" and I switch over, and the Bucknuts or Wolverines come back and win. Grr.
We really do play a more exciting brand of football.

Its clear the Oregon and Washington are less valuable than schools like NW and Purdue.

Yes, those stations could have the rights to any game the CW chooses not to broadcast.

In that scenario, I'm pretty sure we would get paid by both. Winning!

"bridge the gap" i.e.
Jul 27, 2023, 10:54 AM

we will engage in contract talks with no real direction or plan in place, because these talks/plans should have been taking place over the last several years.
The ACC really fudged up by not hopping on the back of Clemson Tigers football success when the Tigers were topping the SEC/B1G teams.
All this effort should have been made in 2018/2019 when the ACC was at top of the heap in college football. Use some leverage to get the league into a better place financially, but they didn't.
Now how do you bridge a gap that has widened with the basketball league being way down, football not as successful as it was a few years ago ???
Clemson can possibly get back to the top this year, but it is hard to leverage on "possible"....
