Less touches for Ray Ray...
Dec 2, 2016, 9:12 AM
|
|
It seemed like up until the last few games, especially the first half of the season that Ray Ray was getting a lot of targets and looks. Almost like they were pre determined plays. Not slamming the guy at all because he is a good player once the ball is in his hands.
It just seems like the offense had clicked a little better the last month and he has not been targeted quite as often. I also could be totally wrong based on stats. It just seems like Artavis and Leggett have gotten a few more looks over the last month than the first half of the season.

The games you're referring to are when Renfroe was out

Ray-Ray and Renfroe play the same position so when Renfroe came back, Ray-Ray's snaps declined.

He was banged up a little mid-season I think That may be part of the reason. Still wished he hadn't dropped that ball in the Troy game before crossing the goal line. Would love to see him get loose against VT.

position and Ray Ray was starting in Scott's position. Now A Scott is back playing his old position and he's getting more touches.

Renfrow got injured in the Troy game, so Ray Ray got the start at the 2 (Artavis' spot) and Artavis took over at the 5 which was Renfrows position. Our offense favors the 2 over 5 in terms of touches. Hunter got back into the straying line up moving Artavis back to the 2 spot caused Ray Ray's touches to decrease and Artavis' to increase and obviously Ray Ray isn't getting the same amount of snaps that was when Hunter was injured.

Offense definitely looks a tick better with Renfrow on the field. The pressure is off to go undefeated, so everyone is really just playing lights out now imo. Mike Williams is playing with the most confidence we've seen all year. Cain still needs to work on his hands a bit but he's made some crucial plays also.

Hunter Renfrow

once he came back...he basically took his position back. Ray Ray is inconsistent. He reminds me of Hopper in a way but more athletic. But man you cant fault him too much bc Renfrow is just so clutch. That dude comes to work everyday.

Ray ray and renfrow both play H. When renfrow was out and ray ray was a little banged up we played artavis at H instead of X or Z. Artavis is till taking reps at H with renfrow. Maybe that is why we don't see much of ray ray

I would take #7 if I needed a big time clutch play. That's just me tho.

Ray Ray showed a ton of explosiveness early in the year

and with him filling in for Renfrow while Hunter recovered from the hand injury, i think the coaches were exploring ways to get him the ball in space. I don't think the results were what they (or I) had really hoped for so his role has been diminished a bit again.
I still haven't given up on Ray Ray as an elite play maker though. He's shown flashes of what he's capable of, he just needs to be more consistent and more reliable. I don't know if you can really coach up hands, but he needs to spend a good chunk of time in the off season working on that.

Ray Ray lost PT when Renfrow came back.
Ray Ray is still incredibly talented and will do great things for us.

our offense does great because defenses don't know who's gonna get the ball. Our method is to be selfless and share the ball.
it works
