shouldn't have. We are co-division champs simple as that. FSU could have avoided sharing it if they had only beaten NC State like we did. I am disappointed that our athletic department chose to put an asterisk on it.

I think what he means is YOU think the asterisk means we didn't EARN it...when we DID.
The asterisk simply means we were Co-Champions and not outright. But you chose to be "embarrassed"...which is in itself embarrassing.

are giving due respect to the fact that we tied for it with the asterisk. As for the banner it is there forever as is the trophy that we have. We will forever be recorded in the record book as co-champions of the divisioin. Everyone know the rules regarding champions, co-champions, etc.., including FSU. They all signed off on the rules and they all knew it going in.
If FSU didn't want us to share the title, they should have beaten NC State. That was something we did that they couldn't do. That is why we both have 7-1 records.

The ACC can call us co-champs if they want, but since FSU won the head to head and there was no 3-way tie, they earned the championship on the field. They should only make 1 championship trophy and it should be in FSUs trophy case for 2012.

Its only because of some quirky definition that the ACC rewards a trophy and calls us "co-champs." If this was some 3 way tie and you had to use some random tiebreaker then I could see perhaps going with the co-champs mantra. But FSU beat us on the field and that meant we had to have them lose 2 for us to win the division. There have been other years in football and other sports where we've tied for the top but didn't recognize it as we did in 2012. I really wonder if the ACC is forcing this.
Look, 7-1 was a great conference record and 11-2 and CFA Bowl Champs is huge. The players should be proud of it. We should proudly display that CFA trophy and final top 10 ranking. But we don't need to make it something that it wasn't just because the ACC thinks head to head only matters as a tiebreaker.

There really shouldn't (IMO) be ANY trophy for division champs. But, thats just my take.
But if you are going to denote a division championship, then the rules of our conference say that they recognize all folks tied prior to tie breakers as co-champions.
Thus you acknowledge it and move on.

And before anyone says that we shouldn't hang such a banner, I am certain if the roles were reversed any team that tied us for the division would do the same. The players worked hard for that co-division title and the ACC rules are very clear that there are co-division champs in such a situation. The ACC also gave a division champ trophey to us. I'm sure someone can post a picture of that.

There were other times we were co-champs of the ACC but lost the tiebreakers, do we have those up there as well?

this title were played by each team. Clemson and FSU ended with identical 7-1 records. We won it on the field with 7 conference wins, just like FSU did. FSU, by virtue of its win over us, won the right to go to the ACCCG, but acoording to the ACC rules, the division championship is determined by the 8-game conference schedule. The rules state that team with the same record are co-champions.

It was ALL on the field.
ACC recognizes division champs (I wouldn't but hey, thats just me) and in doing do says that all teams tied for first place in their division prior to tie breakers are considered co-champs.
So be it. Put the date up there and move on.
