Hey Tigers,
I could use your help!
I'm looking for a under the radar destination spot, for a crew of buddies to get together and play golf and hang afterwards. As the title said, I'm turning 50 and have a crew that I've golfed with since 25.
We've been to the traditional spots, like Kiawah, Pinehurst, Scottsdale etc. and are trying to avoid Bandon, Wisconsin Dells, etc. b/c of other guys are planting their flag there for their trips.
A few key criteria, to help guide me.
1. Great golf - ideally 3 courses near by to play every morning.
2. Contemporary house that can house 16-20 people
3. Big pool, outdoor bar/kitchen for grilling/Golf watching
4. See one, but with good looking cart girls to get us tipsy! LOL
5. Prefer East Coast areas since most are on this side....
TIA for any direct messages or links to VRBOs, or Hotel/Resorts, etc.
A few spots thrown around - for May/June (next year) are Austin, Orlando, Destin.

Kohler - Whistling Straits
Went their last year and its on par w Pebble as a destination in my opinion.
The massage girl at the range for the warmup sold me at hello…ans you have to walk Whistling Straits with a Caddie.

You can play Bethpage for the day and party in NYC and Long Island. Other than that Kiawah I'd always great. If I were someone who didn't live in SC I would go Kiawah. You may have been there too many times though. I think it has the best service, great setting, solid caddies, and the weather would be great. Plus a pool is an option. I would just go to Kiwaha anyway, even if from SC. That or Whistling Straits..

Also, the weather in May in Bandon will probably be cold and cloudy. It's doesn't get sunny there until closer to September. The fof never burns off early in the Summer.

Have a friend and fellow Clemson grad that is a member at Pelican. Both those courses are incredible. I'd also look at Greenbrier in WV although not sure about the pool option there. Old White is awesome and the other courses are not bad at all.

Pinehurst.... just stayed there for 3 nights. Played course 2, 5, 8, 9, 10 and it was awesome. They have houses/condos/hotel rooms.
Great par 3 called the Cradle, and an awesome undulating green with 19 putt putt holes called Thisledew.
Go mid June... the last week in June is the North / South Amateur Tourney so the greens were playoff ready on No 2 when we played. Course 4 was down this year b/c it was used as a parking lot for the US Open last year and the grass wasn't growing back right but it will be back by next year.

Not in the east, but I just got back from Nebraska on a golf trip ........ great golf courses in the Sand Hills (western Nebraska) if you can get on them. Also great courses in Omaha area. You would probably have to have some contacts for several of the courses, but well worth it. The last course we played was GrayBull, part of the Dormie Network of courses. No better golf courses anywhere than the sand hills of Nebraska ....... like being in Scotland or Ireland.

I have been to Sand Hills a half dozen times and it is worth the trip. Scheduled to go to Gray Bull in August and the videos look similar to Sand Hills but with its own flavor. Not easy to get to but well worth the trip. Sand Hills is rated #8 in the country.

I was at the grand opening 30 years ago at Sand Hills and have been numerous times since ...... one of my favorites in the entire world, so it is definitely a "bucket list" course. I loved GrayBull too, but they need to do some tweaking, especially on their "natural" looking sand bunkers/waster areas. They had a bunch of rain a couple of days before we played and some were full of puddles and others the sand had washed so badly there were ruts everywhere and basically unplayable. The best thing about it is that there is grass from tee to green and in between holes, no cart paths, so you drive your cart onto the tee or right up near the green, The fairways are Fine Fescue and Low Mow Bluegrass and there were no worn spots from cart traffic. Definitely a place you want to go.
Since you will probably land in Omaha if you go there, you should try and get on Lost Rail (probably have to know a member), but Quarry Oaks is a must play and is daily fee. Right now they are sold out through the end of August, so you will have to plan ahead and get a tee time in advance. The clubhouse is gorgeous inside and out and you will feel like you are at an upscale private club ....... tee times 15 minutes apart ...... 80 golfers a day.

I would recommend the Monterey Peninsula in California. There are several renowned courses you could play including Pebble Beach, Spyglass, and Poppy Hills. Monterey, Cypress Point, and Spanish Bay are close by as well. I did this several years ago, and while the golf was expensive (even though we stayed at the resort), it was well worth the investment.

I recently stayed with 7 folks at Horseshoe Bay Resort 1 hr outside of Austin, TX. They have 3 excellent courses there that you’d need to stay at the resort to play. You’d be on the water, excellent food at the resort/sports bar, multiple pools, 18 hole mini golf course, and there are villas that could hold your entire group. I’m TX-based so I’m biased, but I think it’d be a great alternative to the typical spots

Have done a golf trip with 12 to Pawleys Island / Georgetown area several times. Stayed in DeBordieu Colony at a house call Tolater (sleeps 21 - or so it says.) We sleep 12 comfortably - might be a little friendly with 16. Lots of space. Great pool and outdoor cooking area. Several very good golf courses close by - True Blue, Caledonia, Litchfield CC, Heritage Club. Decent restaurants close-by and in Georgetown.
Reynolds Plantation in Georgia is another option. Went there last year with 12 and it worked out well.

Some of the other ones I've been to:
Broadmoor
Streamsong
Greenbrier
Lake Oconee GA
Innisbrook
But what I really suggest is to mix it up - go to Casa de Campo and play Teeth of the Dog. Couple of other really good ones there too. Great rental houses there and other things like sporting clays. The DR is awful and really sucks, but Casa de Campo is huge and very nice - and completely gated. You could zip over and play Corales too.
Doral is pretty urban. Best courses at Sea Island are private. Amelia Is isn't great but would be an easy/fun place - shoot down to TPC for a day.

Wherever you go you’ll have a great time!
I’ve played Bandon about 10 years ago. It’s great but tough to get reservations. It’s so popular.
I’m just finishing a trip to Cabot Cape Breton. The courses are better, higher ranked, and less expensive than Bandon. Check it out. The owner of Bandon is a partner at Cabot. Cabot Cliffs-Coore/Crenshaw is number 12 in the world and about 10 years old. Cabot Links is like 25.
In Nova Scotia so go July/August.

Haven't played any of them, so I can't give first hand info.
You mentioned Orlando. If you don't mind the heat check out Streamsong, south of Orlando about 60-100 miles or so.
Greenbriar.
Less swanky than the others on your list, but Callaway Gardens, GA, is nice.

I’ve been to Kiawah, Bandon Dunes, Pinehurst, Scotland, etc. If 💰an issue suggest Murrells Inlet- Pawleys. If you’ve got 💰 saved, you will never regret Pebble Beach!

The Poconos have plenty of options. I play a tourney every year at Mt. Airy and we've played warmup rounds down the road at Skytop. There are numerous courses throughout the Mt. Pocono/Stroudsburg area. You could fly in to Allentown, PA or Newark, NJ. The weather up here is good in May and June. Warm but not hot and humid yet. If you're in to gambling there's plenty of casinos in Mt. Pocono. This is also a huge vacation area for people so there are ALOT of homes to VRBO. I've always enjoyed them and the courses have great views too. Never played Shawnee but i've done work around the area and the course. Great views of the Delaware River (the clean portion of it).
