His cheap shot move should not be encouraged or celebrated by Tiger fans. He didn't show any toughness. He gave a no class sucker punch against someone 100lbs smaller.
I want to see toughness in the trenches. Supporting teammates, playing hard. He was doing none of that with that move.
Take off your orange glasses and realize this was a punk move. He needs to get his head on straight and learn some lessons by the next time he puts on a Clemson uniform.

Byrd comes and gets up in his face. Doesn't justify the punch but it does lend to the reason. He lost it for a moment and he's going to get punished for it. All this talk about an extensive suspension is from a bunch of overly vindictive, self-righteous Dudley Do-Rights that think they're God's gift to morality. Get a grip. It was heat of the moment. It was wrong. It will be addressed by the staff. Your opinion on how many games is irrelevant.

easy way to look good
Battle doesn't start so sit him for as much as Dabo wants to, really doesn't hurt the team
Never has to say how many games, just sit him and won't need him against the next several games anyway.
come out looking like a tough minded coach and program without missing him for a big game

Three plus games would be ridiculous. Sit him for Wake, let him learn his lesson, move on, end of story. In the heat of competition things like that can happen fast.

Geez, not to mention he's never been in trouble before. Three games for a first offense mistake he apologized to the coaches and teammates for?! That is bordering on insanity. Give him whatever Dabo thinks is appropriate, end of story, move on.
When I read many of these posts, I wonder why we even bother hiring coaches.

Would be different if Battle was protecting himself or a legitimate fight. A few verbal taunts doesn't justify a cheap shot.
Would it be fair for a DL to sucker punch Nuk or Sammy when they are trashtalking? For all the complaints about Swearinger, at least his altercations were football plays.

How was it a cheap shot? Its not like the guy wasn't standing there, face to face, running his mouth at Battle. Does Battle have to get into a boxer's stance and give the guy three seconds to leave before punching him before it becomes just a punch? I'm not trying to be an a hole here, I'm just saying I don't look at it as some kind of cheap shot or sucker punch. Sit him for a game for losing his cool and then move on. If he does it again then you hit him with long term punishment.

I love my kids more than you love any football players. I still wouldn't let them get away with a stupid action. When you do something wrong, you get punished (2-minute 'time outs' and slap on the wrists don't count).
Punishment will be determined by Dabo and the league. I'll be fine with whatever happens, and hope Battle learns how to keep his cool the next time. Will still support him as a Clemson Tiger.

We all know it was a mistake, a dumb thing to do. All this stupid self righteousness from onlookers is just plain laughable.
He needs to be punished. Make it so. It's idiotic for us as Clemson fans and supporters to jump on the bandwagon calling him a 'thug', etc. just because the self appointed judges of football morality have condemned Battle over a 5 second clip.

People on yahoo's article about it ay he should be "arrested, spend a few years in jail, have the scholarship revoked and be banned from college and NFL football" for the punch. That's just plain dumb, but 2-3 games is a good start. He will learn his lesson when he is running stadiums every day for the next week.
