Basketball Consistency

At the point when Purnell left Clemson it could accurately be claimed that Clemson had become the 3rd or 4th (behind Duke, UNC and maybe FSU) best PROGRAM in the ACC at that time. I think that may have been before the last expansion of the conference. The knock on Purnell was that he recruited enough athletes (not necessarily basketball players) pressed all over the court and caused chaos enough to win 20 games and make the tournament but could not win in the tournament when he was forced to play a structured half-court game. In comes BB with a more structured system on offense but not enough athletes to get to the tournament consistently. I do however challenge those of you that want a new coach to name ACC teams since expansion to CONSISTENTLY (other than UNC, Duke, FSU, maybe UVA and Louisville) to CONSISTENTLY make the tournament year in and year out.I say there are none. The above teams I mentioned have been CONSISTENT basketball "blue bloods" forever and a day. Clemson has NEVER been that. Another issue is that all of these teams are in larger metropolitan areas that tend to attract top level basketball recruits as opposed to what may be attractive to football or baseball recruits. The men's basketball coaching job is I believe the most challenging job at Clemson. As far as this year goes I ask that you don't go off the deep end after every loss. The fact is that the ND game simply was the fact that they played great and we did not. It happens and it will happen again. This team though is pretty good overall so get behind them.

I don't necessarily disagree with your statement, but if FSU is a basketball blue blood then so is most every other team out there. They've been decent the past few years but that's really it. FSU was patient with Hamilton and it finally started paying off. I think that's what Clemson has tried to do with Brownell also, but at some point that patience has to start wearing thin.

And I don't necessarily disagree with you either but FSU is in a major city and Hamilton is much like Purnell was. He recruits athletes than cause chaos. He wins until he is forced to use actual strategy and then it ends.

It would be very interesting to me to see how the Tigers performed in front of a FULL house. That was a factor in last nights game in South Bend. The ND coach encouraged the students to show up AND they did. I would like to see how this team plays when they have 9000 students in attendance. Don’t complain about the team if you aren’t willing to do your part,
I never missed a basketball game when I was a student and the Tigers weren’t very good then either. BUT we all were Clemson Men!

Yes, and name me one of those people in that full house that drained a 3 pointer that night. Teams win in arena's that are sold out, and they lose in arena's that are sold out. In fact I know one team that went on the road and beat a team 67-50 in an arena they had not won at since 2008 and yet not even a month later lost to that same team at home 75-65 .Now where is the consistency in your argument. As to doing my part I can't dribble a basketball or even hit the rim from the foul line, but nothing I do sitting in Littlejohn is going to change the outcome of a game where the home team goes 7 minutes without scoring a basket( UVA), which does seem to be a consistent theme in this program , not only this year, but in the past few years if I recall.

Great, so since fan support doesn't matter

let's make sure Death Valley is half empty next time we have a big football game coming up. Let's provide this mediocre support consistently and see how it impacts our team.
You'd be fine with that, right?

But now FSU is third on second. Hamilton's marquee for the program is "New Bloods" love that name and better than "Clemson Grit" They are having to rebuild a little this season when couple of players went to the NBA early than expected and the highly recruited freshman aren't quite ready to be key players yet, but recruit at a high level and most seasons will be a key team in the ACC race.
