How do you know when a commercial is about to come on the radio to record it? Maybe we planted a mole to embarrass them.

Q Williams has already bought each of his family members a Natty sweatshirt to celebrate the Tides win over a hapless Clemson team!

VERY simple explanation for this...

As you know, I work for iHeartRadio. last Friday, Academy Sports and one other sporting goods chain placed advertising buys in Alabama and South Carolina that were to run ONLY IF the respective teams won. Here in Columbia, I appointed one person on staff to watch the end of the game and make sure the spot ran ONLY IF Clemson won. If not, they were to pull the spot from the system. Apparently, the Alabama radio station didn't do that and the ad was allowed to air. Here's the downside for the station... not only did it make them look incompetent, the ad agreement clearly stated that if the spot ran when it shouldn't, the station would owe the company THREE TIMES the amount of advertising in the future, AND run a disclaimer admitting that we ran the wrong commercial. (pretty standard in our business.)
Thought I'd get this out there before a bunch of people chimed in with some kind of conspiracy theory. It was a simple (yet dumb) mistake on the radio station's part.

I get this is advertising and not journalism, but the guy made it seem like he was doing a live spot from the Hoover store, watching all those happy Bama fans streaming in. Just a bit dishonest there.

Recorded commercials that sound live are called “as live “spots

Nothing dishonest about it. They never say we are here alive, they just use sound effects and verbiage that makes it sound like they are. And don’t forget. The radio station doesn’t write or produce these commercials. These are sent directly from Academy or their agency.

He said “from academy sports and outdoors....many Alabama fans coming in”. He was acting like he was there. That’s dishonest.
