At least he's predictable...

Oct 6, 2020, 11:29 AM

if he's moving his lips he's either lying or struggling to breathe.

He really does not seem to grasp the difference between "20,000 people a year" and "210,000 people since March and still counting", or the difference between a Level 2 biohazard (the flu) and a Level 3 (SARS, West Nile, yellow fever, and oh, yeah, COVID), despite the fact that a Level 3 just bit him in the a$$ and got him a ride to the hospital and a ventilator on his face.

You almost have to admire his unflagging dedication to stupid.

If you get shot in the head and also have the flu- it won’t be counted as a flu death!

He tells it like it is. You're not going to shut down the country for other illnesses that kill so why COVID? It looks like you only like stats and facts that make your stance look better. Look at the total picture.

It appears you and the other Trump haters are saying all the people who die from the flu are less important than the ones that die from COVID? What hypocrites!!!

2016 - 2017 Flu Season US Deaths - 38,000
2017 - 2018 Flu Season US Deaths - 79,400
2018 - 2019 Flu Season US Deaths - 61,200 (per CDC this is closer to the average)
2019 - 2020 Flu Season US Deaths - 22,000 (how many were mis coded as coronavirus and/or the total deaths reduced by the lockdowns?)

I think he's right in that we are learning to live with it.

Oct 6, 2020, 11:46 AM

The Big10 and Pac12 are starting football. We haven't shut the country back down. Most 1st graders are starting back school.

Colleges, like Clemson, were completely shut down in March and April. Now people are going to classes in person. Disney World is open.

I just feel like there are numerous examples of people continuing to live life.

Disney world is open but far from normal. Max capacity at 30%. Masks required. Reservation for visit required. Park hopping not allowed.

I think it's a strawman argument...

Oct 6, 2020, 12:00 PM

I don't think anyone wants or feels the need to "shut the country down".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure how you can say that

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

saying they want to shut the whole country down.

I've seen him say he will listen to the scientists..

Oct 6, 2020, 12:45 PM

I have not heard our scientific authorities advocating mass shutdowns.

It's just fear mongering. Both sides do it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly. Most scientists including Fauci

Oct 6, 2020, 12:48 PM

have said in different ways that if everybody wears a mask we can be over this thing by Christmas.

But you have a President and his staff who refuse to. Which is why there are more cases of COVID in the White House right now than some countries.

A national mask mandate (yes I know some people are not going to wear it period) would significantly reduce the spread of COVID no matter what your facebook group with "freedom" in the name says.

He seems to be arguing as if there is no middle ground

Oct 6, 2020, 12:20 PM [ in reply to I think it's a strawman argument... ]

I feel like some folks feel like the only options are:

"shut it down!" or "let's go back to they way it was. no precautionary measures needed!"

"It's Baltimore, Gentlemen; the Gods will not save you."

That's common, to present a false choice of two extremes.

Oct 6, 2020, 12:43 PM

Very common in politics today. One side is freedom, the other side socialism. One side cares, the other side wants to destroy, etc.

Oct 6, 2020, 1:26 PM

COVID, to which there is no 'past legislation, voting history, etc.

But in general, if you want to talk about someone's spoken words or, in this case, tweeted words, we have proof in the WH that someone can do an about face on their belief/stances as they deem necessary to get support. And no, you can go GOOGLE it yourself if you actually need a reminder of what I'm talking about.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.
