Utilize the portal properly? The coots are getting good players left and right from the portal and it’s partially how they were able to have the season they did. Just picked up two OL today, one a 4 star from ole miss who redshirted. It worries me that we’re not going out and looking for the BEST in the portal for critical positions we may be thin at. Thoughts?

Maybe because the best in the portal does not necessarily mean the best for Clemson. Your opinion of properly using and the Clemson coaching staff's are two different things. I give them the benefit of the doubt because they have a full trophy case to show for their opinions

Swinney and Donnelly. We can use a backup QB or punter to hold for extra points and he's been on the team 4 years already. If he there was some urgent need for him to remain (outside of football) his dad could likely afford to pay for 2 semesters without busting his 11 million dollar annual budget. The portal thing bit us in the rear end for this years bowl game at WR. The need for extra players has changed when they start heading into the portal prior to seasons end. Tom Brady always took less money in a swap to get better teammates (serious money). We're talking peanuts here.

A real Clemson fan remembers when Dabo directed any raises for himself to his staff, so he could build it properly. Also, scholarships for walk-ons are year to year, but...it's no one's business if Dabo chooses to withdraw. Lastly, the Covid scholarships don't count towards the max...hence the 88 at present.
Now, carry on with your Dabo bashing. You're free to do so...readers are free to laugh.

The truth is that Dabo applied his bonus one year, not part of his salary, so that assistants could get raises. It was a small percentage of his overall pay that year.
In an incredible coincidence, Dabo got a significant raise later that year.
It’s another example of how the Clemson football narrative is whatever certain people want it to be.

they have graduated and are moving on this year. We have a total of two former walkons of the 88 for next year. Will Taylor, who everyone knew was getting a scholarship when one opened up, and RD Dominique Thomas, who was added because he earned it last year. That's it. Everyone else of the 88 is someone we recruited and signed out of high school

Dabo will use the portal when he deems it in the best interest of our program. As our HC, that is his prerogative. When will Dabo stop honoring the commitments he makes to those kids he signed out of high school? I hope never.

And some of us are concerned with his judgment on that, since we’ve lost games the last few years to teams that used the portal to get players who beat us.

to beating our Tigers on the road in one season. Surprising turnaround and outcome was possible only due to the portal talent influx.
Clemson will improve in 2023 due to CK2 and a few talented returning players incl. TD13. SCAR will also continue to improve in my estimation through use of the portal.

Benefit from programs that recruited better than yours did. That doesn't mean the current coach can't recruit...it does mean the current coach is addressing the prior staff's shortcomings. If a program lives by the portal 3-4 years into an administration, that's a major red flag, in my opinion.

We don't have any spots for a portal player. 88 scholarships.
Are you saying we should just be one of those teams that processes out players when they don't had day 1 starting potential?
