Aside from Heldt, what is actually better? Aveon Terrell was here last year as was Sammy Brown. Is the new defensive coach making a difference? Maybe it takes a season to really get his schemes understood? Looking for a light in the tunnel here.

Yes they’re better. They’ve kept us in games but they’re not to the point of being able to win us games. Wes would have gotten boat raced by Tech and LSU and we would probably be 0-3 now. Was hoping for significant improvement but looks like it’s going to take longer than we hoped for.

I agree, they are slightly better. DB’s are playing worse, but tackling overall is better. Still not very good at defending the run, especially the QB runs…. CANNOT expect the switch to flip in 3 games with a new scheme. Give the guy some time…. They are not why we are losing

Defense isn’t the problem if you ask me. We are 3-0 if we have even a slightly competent offense. Plus I think the Tom Allen defense will improve as the season goes. My concern is next year, replacing all of the talent. Unless we hit the portal hard we will lack the jimmys and joes on defense

How many years did Goodwin have to get the defense right? How many years did Goodwin work under Venables and get to learn his system?
Tom Allen just got here. Yes, he has years of experience, but he needs time to develop his players.
I personally think he has done an OUTSTANDING job for the little amount of time he has been here.

The defense is way better. Scheme, play calling, recognition, and tackling. Tech has a good offense and it was tough sledding for them all day. All 3 games the defense held the opposing team to beatable point totals, even with the offense being completely inept and turning the ball over. If we had an offense that could put up a measly 25-35 points a game we'd be undefeated. If we had last year's defense with how bad the offense has been so far LSU and GT would have both blown us out.
