Assuming Clemson is allowed to vacate the ACC through whatever means necessary, I still am not sold on what our future holds. The Big10 is not a cultural fit. That doesnt means they would not want to expand into the hot bed of Southern football culture, but culturally we are not a natural fit. Additionally, we still do not possess the academic accreditation valued by the conference. Is AAU obtainable? I believe so, especially with the time required for the case to play out, but I dont claim to be an expert. The SEC is the cultural fit for the ACC, but again its not a natural partnership. As much as I love my Alma Mater, we do not reaide in large media market and bring a viwership lanscape already squarely in the SEC's pockets. Like it or not, media dollars drive the bus. Additionally, the largest State run college is already a member of the conference, and while they may not have veto power, SC as a state is already in the SEC media market. Independent? Thats a pipe dream. If Clemson as a smaller public institution is attempting to leave the conference due to being monetarily disadvantaged, being an Independent would be disastrous. Like it or not, the Paw doesnt carry the same weight as our Irish cohorts in South Bend. I likely think the outcome has been predetermined, or at least gamed out with as many outcomes as possibly conceived debated at the Administration and Athletic leadership levels. What that outcome is, who the hell knows. Does the SEC greed to stay atop the football world bring us into their fold? Or does the Big10 expand their footprint into the Blue Ridge? How about Big 12? Do Clemson and FSU end up in the same conference? Is FSU more desireable?....what is everyone's thoughts?

Realistic possibility, although I agree that this move is mostly lateral. Maybe Im too pessimistic, but I dont think we are as valuable a brand as many seem to believe. Assuming FSU/Clemson win their lawsuits, what stops UNC and possibly Virginia as being viable options leapfrogging Clemson? You nailed it, poor decisions by both the ACC and our own administration in signing and sticking to this league has placed us in this position.

About the time some wanted to move so badly, WV actually did. They have since won nothing. We have won much. I don't see "why" we should have moved.

Short of the conference imploding, or being left outside in the cold following our exit, the Big12 shoukd be our LAST option.

100% agree, which is why I believe we are nore likely to be absorbed by the Big10 then the SEC. The Southeastern media markets are already dominated by the SEC. Adding the South to the Big10 would be a media win as well as a big middle finger to the SEC if the Big10 were to pull it off.

It will happen.
When relationships get to this point, they do not get repaired. Clemson was never, ever staying in the ACC until 2036. Ever.
Clemson will never be in the big 12 either.
Not sure why people will not embrace what Dabo has been saying for quite a while
Staying in the ACC is not in the best interest of Clemson and hasn’t been for several years.

Ive heard this mentioned before, with football breaking off entirely from the NCAA. Definetly feasible but essentially a SEC vs Big10 super conference argument. No way conferences implode entirely when the conference brand and historic rivalries are at stake. The 8 team pods will just be divisions within the Big10 or SEC itself...or at least this is my opinion

The biggest unknown for me is how important is academic standing for the Big or expanding footprint for the SEC. We're in a pickle with those factors. I think the Veterinary School will play a role and the women's sports like gymnastics will help.

I think the Big10 has more to gain than the SEC, as such I think its our most likely destination. Clemson is not in a position of strength. Whichever conference we do end up in I see a scenario similar to Wash/USC unfolding where we agree to a smaller profit share in the short term.

Maybe so...but this could be a strong argument for Clemson officials. If the Big10 is looking to expand, and the SEC looking to maintain territorial integrity, this makes Clemson all the more inticing and valuable for both sides. Maybe it even lowers the amount we end up having to buy out...

I agree: no real good options at this point. It probably won’t happen, but my hope would be for the SEC to take all (or almost all) of the ACC teams from Florida up through Virginia in one swipe and create a true superconference. I think this is a possibility because otherwise the Big10 will pick off the most desirable schools and expand into SEC territory. The SEC could do some interesting and creative scheduling and divisional alignment to make it all work.

Do you think we fit cultural fit with Duke, UNC, GT, Pitt, Cuse, Miami, UVA or BC? We have very little in common with any of these schools other than being members of the ACC.

The historical ACC schools are a cultural fit, if only loosely and geographically. We have histories with these institions that will take years to erase. As for the recent ACC additions to include Syracuse, Pitt, etc. No, not really. Tbose were grasps at straws by a basketball minded institution looking out for Tabacco roads best interests. However, even with our differences, Clemson will have more in common with the regional football of the Southeast than the Big 10. However, I still think the Big10 has more to gain by considering Clemson than the SEC.
