I'd say when we bailed out Chrysler, GM, Ford and about 10 different financial companies back in '08 we started socializing losses.

Not arguing either way, but what makes it unconstitutional..

? Is this not within the power granted to them by Congress?
FWIW, I think it's wrong-headed as well, but not sure why it's not constitutional.

in your house and drive your car. And tell ua about the legislation - no, not even that, but unelected administrator rule - you would support requiring you to do that. If no to either, tell how that is not hypocrisy.
You own stock in Blackstone, dont you?

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a historic threat to the nation’s public health. Keeping people in their homes and out of crowded or congregate settings — like homeless shelters — by preventing evictions is a key step in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19.-CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky
I guess keeping people out of homeless shelters is helpful when a pandemic is spiking.. Or!!! this is a power grab by the CDC to give poor people free rent and screw property owners.
take whichever pill you like.(hint the red one is objective reality)

anything but.
If its about covid, surely those who are willing to be vaccinated have been, and surely that demographic is highly vaccinated. You and the other leftists here say its republicans and trumpists not getting vaccinated. Tnetters have gone on rants about the stupid unvaccinated and how they deserve to die. But if you dont get vaccinated and you don't pay your rent, you should get free rent? Can you explain that?
If its about being able to pay rent, with however many trillion being spent on various stimis and with the current worker shortage, I don't see how one links the two. At the least it must be shown in an individual case, but don't hold your breath for that.
People willing to make rent payments, and communicate with the owner about repaying arrears, are not going to get evicted. I promise, that is not going to happen. Eviction merely starts new rent payments from someone else, and if the tenant is willing to do that, almost all landowners will work something out. Evictions almost always happen in response to refusal to begin payments. Basically "eff you", gets an eviction.
So, people are basically having their assets confiscated for public use, with no exit plan. You'll have the same people (more, actually) with the same problem. So now you have three questions you have to rationally answer: (1) if everyone should be vaccinated, why pay the rent of people who wont (2) how do you justify dictating the use of someone else's assets and (3) what will you do in Oct?
This is not about caring for people who need help. That is a great subject. This is not that.
I mentioned Blackstone. They are buying up every rental property, many of them now distressed, they can get their hands on. I guess you like that scenario.
A final note (I promise): I speak as a lessor. We have an airbnb property. We refuse to rent it for more days than the SC limit for "short term rental" (I think it's 21). Under 21 there is not a tenant relationship, a renter can be trespassed on my phone call. If over 21 we fall under tenant laws, which, as we now see, puts my property at least partially under the control of a a faceless administrator somewhere, for whatever purpose they like. No definition of compassion requires me to do that, and I'm not going to. Neither would you. Gotcha.

Legit question for you.....

[ in reply to Re: THIS IS OUTRIGHT BULLSH*TE ] |

a) Do you believe that all those benefiting from this "rent hiatus" have been unable to pay said rent during this time?
b) If they are "down" as you say, during a time with unprecedented govt stimulus payments and a job market that has employers begging for employees in the $15-25 an hour range, many with large hiring bonuses, when will they not be "down"? Perhaps private sector housing isn't for them and we're just delaying the inevitable.

my response to bengaline was a joke.
a) no b) We have no problem getting people in the door for a lot less than that. I do not share your cynicism. I wish we could pay our junior artists 25 an hour, but we have no problem getting them in the door for 20 with no incentives.

the first 6 months we take a loss on a new artist hire, when they start to become more profitable in year 2, they get bumped up. We also have the luxury of spotting hard workers because their portfolios tell me everything I need to know. I can get the cream of the crop out of the local art schools for 20 an hour no problem.

I'm not concerned about your profitability. You should pay them more. It's the right thing to do. I assume you cover all of their health care needs.

I do not control where the profits go, and I do not think you have any real understanding of the industry I am in, nor the rarity of the position and career path we offer. Kids would work here for free if we let them. And last I checked, 20 an hour is good money for a 22-year-old with a 3 year art degree.

What is the CDC's opinion on allowing record numbers of migrants to flood our southern "border," be placed on buses and planes and dispersed throughout the country? Is this not a COVID concern? Apparently not? It's a good thing that the usual seasonal decrease in illegal border crossings due to heat occurred. Oh wait, it didn't. June was the largest monthly total since April 2000.
So the economy is doing well, jobs are going unfilled and renters can stay put per the CDC to protect us from COVID. The southern border is essentially a sieve with untold numbers of people getting into the country. No problem? Got it. Thankfully we will keep the Canadians out through Aug 21st.
