Finebaum is right but he's ignorant of the economics.

While it's true USCe fans will watch a Clemson game to see us lose, FL fans will watch FSU to see them lose and all the fans have a most hated team which they will always watch and pull against. Love and hate are nearly equal emotions.

However, what that moron is ignoring is the prospective conference income for having teams which have the potential to capture a playoff spot. The expansion of the playoff is bringing a two conference showdown for unclaimed playoff money.

We're all aware of how the playoff money is distributed. Each team participating earns an equal portion of the entire playoff payout. If a team plays in two round it earns two portions of the payout for its conference.

The most desired are not as much valued by how many playoffs they have made but how many they may make in the future. Clemson and FSU have more potential to seed in the playoff than 90% of the programs already included in the SEC and B1G. They have something like a 98% chance of a playoff appearance than the teams not included in those two conference.

My conclusion is that Finebaum is a rat troll and writes for a bunch of, ignorant mouth breathers who have no concept of basic economic principles. That's why he's considered a writer by the SEC.

PF still has a major case of the "red a$$"...

that is lingering from the Clemson 2019 CFP Championship game beatdown of his beloved Crimson Tide (the team that was labeled the best football team in college football history). Clemson made PF and many other talking heads look like a bunch of uninformed buffoons.

Clemson didn't make Finebaum look like a buffoon...

Clemson shined the light on him and those other SEC shills so the world could see them for what they are, the SEC hype machine. I quit clicking on links which redirected me to ESPiN and Finebaum long ago.

I certainly wouldn't disagree with that.***

Dabo shut him down on asking if he would ever return to Bama and replace Saban. The man hasn't been the same since. His statement are more like that of a scorned lover than a TV talking head.

SCAR doesn't want us taking their lunch money

1

May 23, 2023, 12:29 PM

Because we would easily overshadow them as the premier team in the state. SCAR would drift off into further obscurity on the national scene. If there was an option for the SEC to trade SCAR for Clemson it would be a no-brainer. I'm not sure FSU would overshadow UF so much. I believe they would be a more even market share. But if Clemson were to join it would be 75 / 25 in viewership in our state. I know this doesn't speak to dollars and cents with us both being in but I can tell you for certain SCAR would vote against Clemson becoming a member and from what i hear that would be all it would take to keep us out.

That would be a decision driven by emotions and one which...

ignores the pure economic advantage we give them for being a conference mate. I know some of USCe's fans are idiots who think with their groin but those in power will vote to promote a team which fattens USCe's bank account.

This is all about the money now.

UofSC will do EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE TOLD TO DO by Greg Sankey, just like A&M did when the decision was made to add Texas.

as part of the SEC west USCe would avoid playing us every year. Our SOS would rise drastically for no apparent reason. :)

You're off a little bit on your analysis. There is not all that much money in making the playoffs. A conference gets $6 million for each team making the playoffs. (The teams in the title game get $2 million each for travel expenses.)

By comparison, each P5 conference gets $74 million from the CFP, regardless of whether they even have a team in the playoffs.

For further comparison, in FY2022, the Big Ten made $845 million. The SEC made ~$800 million. The ACC made $617 million, the Pac12 $580 million, and the Big 12 $480 million.
