Areas to improve in recruiting

One of these years we need to land an absolute ball hawk at safety who hits hard. We have been serviceable at safety but nothing great for years. I like the o line class from last year but we need to land some stronger interior guys who just maul ppl. No reason we should be getting stuffed in the run game up the middle against acc teams. Lastly we need a speedster at receiver. Let’s move away from getting all big possession guys and land more burners

Did you ever have the pleasure of seeing Brian Dawkins play? Of course NFL HOF'ers don't come around too often. I wouldn't mind seeing Clemson grab the next Ed Reed

The last real star safety I can recall was DeAndre McDaniel, 2007-10. And safety is a critical spot, but OL seems like a bigger recruiting priority IMHO.

Yes. If you put college Deandre McDaniel on this years team it is so much better. I think the highest ranked safety Clemson has landed under Swinney is Travis Blanks but he tore his leg up and was never the same. Such a shame

Wasn’t Simmons a safety until he moved to LB? Also, Kearse was pretty good. Saved the Louisville game when DW4 busted his hand.

Both of those guys are still in the NFL to my knowledge ? Yeah. We've had nobody since Dawkins ...who wasn't really even a safety at Clemson ????

Safety is not a weakness and hasn’t been for years.

Haven’t had any weaknesses on this team in last 6 years. Maybe some soft spots but those trophies speak for themselves. We too deep. Go tigers!!

Safety has been fine...Jadar Johnson, Van Smith, Kearse all have been good college football players.

a last minute attempt to acquire a a true deep threat at WR; agree there is a duplication of skill set in the WR pos group: tall, rangy move the chains, lacking elite speed prototypical possession rec; next year: white kid is a slot rec but the other two 4*'s share the same skill set I described: poss wr- Not a bad thing but be nice to have 1 w/ to ability to get behind the D; forcing opposing D's to account such a threat would open up field, even if they couldn't catch-

I'll leave all recruiting matters up to Dabo to whom he needs. He's done pretty good since he got here. Dabo takes into consider other factors outside of athletic ability such as character etc.
Tell us again what's on your resume that makes you such a recruiting critic of the Tigers?

We can also use more OL talent.
We have a number of four star recruits at safety over the last two years. Perhaps it is a difficult position to play in Venables defense. Tuner, Venables, Zanders, Charleston, Phillips all get a decent amount of PT.
Our safety’s played really well last year. They had all been here awhile though. They shut down the middle of the field against LSU in the Championship game. It was our first round corners that got beat on the outside in that game.
I would imagine in two years, safety will be very solid for us. In fact, our defense should be historically good the next couple of years. We don’t lose many folks on defense at the end of this year. Spector, Skalski, Pinckney can all come back if they want to. Maybe Kendrick and Thomas leave early.
