Dark Horse Heisman Contenders (per ESecPN)

Connor Shaw, QB, South Carolina Gamecocks
Since former Heisman Trophy winners are granted a vote for that honor, it would behoove us to listen when one of them speaks highly of a candidate.

That suggestion goes double when the person talking is Steve Spurrier. As noted in this Insider article, Spurrier has been telling Gamecocks booster clubs that Shaw could be an All-SEC quarterback this season over such big names as Aaron Murray and Tyler Wilson.

The reason Spurrier can say this is because of Shaw's late-season performance last year. He combined the elements of a dominant rushing threat (327 yards and five touchdowns on the ground over his last four games) with elite passing totals (his 196.1 passer rating in that time frame was the highest in college football). If those traits can help South Carolina navigate one of the toughest three-game stretches in the SEC, they could vault the Gamecocks into national championship contention and move Shaw into Heisman consideration (even over teammate Marcus Lattimore).

I don't think Steele ever got the memo on the fact that man to man defense doesn't work against a running QB or zone read system.

To think. He made all that money and couldn't grasp that simple truism.

i just think the good ole ##### are reading way too much about themselves and Vandy is just lying in wait. this Vandy team will be much better than Vandy's team from last year. i just got a feeling that baloon down in Cootlumbia my burst early...let's not forget that USuc struggled last year in its opener.
