Are We Trying To Go Back To The 1940's ---

Areas around this country are banning chocolate milk in schools as it will no longer be a part of school lunch.

Might as well serve a plate full of beets...carrots ..and green peas.

Feel for those kids 🤮🤮🤮🤮

The choices for milk are usually low-fat chocolate or whole milk

Not sure why they’d want to get rid of low-fat chocolate unless the fun police is making their rounds.

"too much added sugar" is their line now. They're already further reducing the allowable sodium amounts more than the Michele Obama program did, and increasing whole grains. As a teacher, this food is already nasty enough...they are going to make it virtual cardboard.

In obesity, diabetics, heart disease, and Covid. Parents won’t do it, so somebody has to do something, don’t you think?

Interesting how all of these things got worse after the dietary restrictions in schools were put in place. Back when we drank whole milk and good chocolate milk in school, we also we also had PE classes, physical fitness tests and ran around and played outside at recess. We have done a very good job of proving that the lack of physical activity is way more responsible for those issues than what we eat.

Same with bread. Was a District sales manager with Merita and when Obama was in we had to get healthier. The wheat products and grain products were awful tasting. Trying to keep it affordable for schools and the company was impossible and led to the crap they eat today

Don't let the school menu fool you. It's not as healthy as advertised but it's all some kids get.

Look at the USDA food pyramid or plate or whatever they call it. It is almost exactly the carb to protein to fat ratios you use to fatten up hogs.

Whole milk was removed from schools many years ago. Then they went after flavored milks because of the sugar content. I worked in the dairy industry for over 35 years and for the last 15-20 years, schools would only accept bids for the worst tasting products we produced. The flavored milk products that have been in schools since the Obama days didn’t even exist 20 years ago because the government mandated that the sugar levels be so low that these products tasted so bad no one would have bought them. The industry had to reformulate them to meet the Federal requirements and try to make them at least drinkable, which proved to be pretty much impossible. Your government at work.

we used to get served nice meals in first and 2nd grade, 3rd grade is when a B western actor cut funding to school lunches and we got hot dogs and french fries instead. Ketchup was considered a vegetable, and thus we raised a generation of fatties. And yes, we had chocolate milk. Nothing better than to pump kids full of sugar so they can sit still and learn.

I began my academic life

In 1946 at Gramling Elementary, a school that was already condemned, and the lunch room was unbelievable.

I was, and still am, a finicky eater so I was not a happy student!!! My teachers thought they could change me but they failed. I guess that is one reason I weighed a robust 113 pounds when I graduated in 1959.

Two major league scouts came to one of my games and when they saw this skinny shortstop they left before the first pitch!!’

I guess I should have drink more Gramling Dairy milk!

I survived however and actually weighed 180 once. Good old PBRs saved me.

Thank Obama and his lovely wife. I feel sorry for the kids.
In fact we can thank Obama for a bunch of things that he started.

Milk isn't necessary in school lunch. Serve water only and there should be no complaints. Problem(s) solved.

about education. Now it seems to be more about feeding the kids. I certainly support that but everyone at my daughter's school (now a college soph) got free lunch and covid concerns were more about feeding programs and making the food accessible than actually learning the three "r"s. "We hope you can access the learning plan and pay attention to zoom, but don't worry, if you fail we'll blame it on covid. Now be sure to eat your sticks and dirt and chase it with good ole skim milk. Then you can stare at your phone and play video games instead of playing outside til dark."
