Anyone else actually feel confident when it was obvious that

Oct 3, 2016, 12:07 PM

the end of the game was going to come down to a defensive stand? Coach Venables has us Clemson fans expecting to win these matchups now. Our guys are prepared and ready to meet the challenge.

I looked at my wife on 1st and 10 on those last 4 downs and said they will not get in the end zone.

I wouldn't say I was feeling very confident, but I remember thinking that there is no defense in the nation better suited to make a 4th down stand than ours. That seems to be as much a part of our identity as #WRU or Deshaun Watson. While UL fans may feel like the better team lost that night, that 4th down stand proves, once again, that a great football team isn't just a guy with a decent supporting cast that can put up video game numbers. We made the stops when we had to... UL didn't.

Yeah but until we are able to really lock teams down late in the game, I'm not as confident as I should be late. We have to do a better job of tackling late in games. One of the staples of Bama's defense is their ability to pressure the QB and lock teams down late in games. Yes, they struggle against athletic QBs but for the most part they are pretty solid.

When we get to a point where teams have to make exceptional plays against us, I will then be satisfied. I'm still waiting for the coverage break downs to happen in the secondary that killed us against Bama in the Chip game.

UL will win a lot of games this season.

Offense wins games, defense wins championships.

Still stinging from the "Tommy" years

Oct 3, 2016, 12:21 PM

The first 22 minutes or so of the 2nd half reminded me of so many lost opportunities from the late 90's and 2000's. I have more general confidence in Clemson than ever before. After this one I have yet more. However, not sure I'll ever get over West and Bowden in that way.

Not bc I didnt think they could do it. I was just so afraid that we were gassed and didn't have enough in the tank to physically do it.

clock, I was more concerned before we scored our last TD. How many big games, tough games have we won with BV at DC with a defensive stand? I was also on the fence as to whether we should have been using timeouts to preserve time just in case they scored.

I was biting my nails too. Our Defense has helped save a lot of games the last couple of years and BV is the difference. His fire, attitude and preparation has carried over to the players. Okla. misses him more than they realize. Great hire by Dabo.

Oct 3, 2016, 1:01 PM

it was obvious who the better team was. were they good...yes. but if those 2 turnovers for scores do not happen, the game is 17 pt win. the only reason game was ever in doubt was due to mistakes. cut those in half, and they have 75-80 plays vs 99 plays and the outcome is far different. much like gt, i was not worried. i still contend the game in tally will be tough. now, we have to make sure that noles have 2 loses at home during same calendar yr. thats a big deal.

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger

Wow - what a win! Venables is the best defensive coordinator in the country - no disputing that and I always have faith in our D.

Question: Does anyone know when/why the D switched to zone in the 2nd half? I know that our D was gassed, so that has to be a part of the decision making, but it seems that when we go to zone coverage, we give up plays to the middle of the field. "Go" Tigers!
