were adamantly against because of their in-state, annual rivalry games.
The SEC plays an 8 game conference schedule, yet another reason to go SEC or not at all...

Their "TV Partner" ESPN will be the ones doing the forcing.

Too many possibly juicy conference matchups that would make for big ratings left on the table every year with only 8 conference games. Those voices wanting nine will really ramp up once Texas and Oklahoma are officially playing football in the SEC. If Clemson and FSU were to join on top of that, nine is inevitable.

Part of the issue, ESPN has not agreed to pay for the 9th.

And it's still a vote by the conference, a simple majority.
If OU & Tejas both vote for and nothing changes, it will leave the 9th game 2 votes short.
This is out there for you to find and read, instead of guessing.
Inevitable, like a Done Deal? That cost our good friend, york_tiger, some serious screet cred.

And yet, ESPN did not agree to pay for a 9th game.

9 conference games is inevitable with these conferences expanding to 16+. The Big10 also doesn’t play FCS games. So that would mean 3 G5/P5 non conference games. Gamecocks plus two more. I would guess a former ACC opponent would probably be kept on the schedule.

game required by SC state legislature.
It's the flexibility an 8 game schedule provides to more easily maintain 7 home games and still include fan friendly, home and home, OOC contests.
Would it be as important if CU was in the SEC? I'd leave that up to Admin-AD and whomever else is interested in the guaranteed additional $5mil a 7th home game brings each year.

Scheduling will always be an issue, less of one in the SEC in considering this.

One year & 4 the next. Have Coots and 2 more when we have only 4 and 2 out of conference in years with 5 .

with 9 conference games; it is that flexibility an 8 conference game schedule afforded.
It might not be as important in the SEC, but that's for AD/Pres/BOT and whomever else to decide.

We’d be the face of the B1G in this region
Our DL overwhelms 90% of B1G programs and they simply cannot match our skill, so it also offers a much clearer path to the CFP

that's more than what Clemson has now?
The B1G would want representation in the SE to make easier the path to recruiting these areas as 8-10 games would be played in any season at Clemson & Tallahassee, something that did not exist prior.
It seems other than the money, the B1G gains more of a face in this situation.
