So the illegals coming into the US under Biden brought their cattle with them? And that introduced the screw worm, which has supposedly decimated the cattle herd, causing high beef prices?
https://x.com/Ronxyz00/status/1990077426290901333?s=20
Someone asked Grok and this is what Grok said:
No, Scott Bessent's explanation isn't accurate as a primary cause. High beef prices stem mainly from the smallest U.S. cattle herd in decades, driven by droughts, high feed costs, and slow herd rebuilding, which created supply shortages amid steady demand. While screwworm outbreaks have disrupted some cattle imports from Mexico, no credible data links immigrant-smuggled diseased cattle to widespread price impacts.
So you know me (from the USDA fwiw)....

The national beef herd is at a 73 YEAR LOW:

For beef prices, it’s hard to blame trans people, so immigrants are the next best thing.

I don't think thats quite what he's saying

It sounds like to me he's saying the migrants from South America brought beef into Mexico, and thus we (the US) had to stop importing Mexican cattle. I have no idea if thats true, at all. I tend to doubt it, but I don't think he's claiming they brought cattle into the US.

...a disease we'd been rid of in North America made its way up through South America as these migrants, they brought some of their cattle with them...."
"part of the problem is we've had to shut the border to Mexican beef because of the disease called the screw worm. We're not going to let that get into our supply chain"........
5.6% of US beef consumed yearly, is from Mexico. (2024 number)
So......yeah.....whatever.

Just that I don't think he's saying immigrants are bringing cattle with them to the US, which I thought was your assertion in the initial post.
Perhaps I was wrong, or perhaps I am misinterpreting his words.

I just posted what he said.

Sure sounds to me like he said what he said. And screw worm has not even impacted the American cattle herd, and only slightly impacted imports from Mexico, where we get a massive 5% of our beef from.
And ain't a single Guatemalan or Honduran bringing their cows to Mexico as they immigrate north to the US.

Supply and demand

Beef demand is up. Herd size is down. I’ll also throw in there data centers buying up farmland isn’t helping. My wife’s cousins just sold their multi generational cattle farm in Statesville to become a data center.

you're an octragenarian.
And 60 years ago, when we had a larger beef herd in the US, we had 194 million mouths to feed, and not 340 million.

That’s a seriously long cattle drive from South America to Mexico, but an ingenious idea as there is nothing wrong with riding a cow- see Alex Karras(Mongo) in Blazing Saddles.
If need be, some of the cattle could be used as food or even a form of currency with the coyotes from the cartels to make the final leg to America.
Bessent missed his calling as Secretary of Agriculture.
Charleston must be very proud to have such a brilliant mind living there.

Pretty bold to sneak across the border with a herd of cattle. He is saying it happens many times. Pretty funny.

Do the cattle climb over the wall or do they have to sneak them through a checkpoint in El Paso, San Diego, etc.?
