They aren't about to give up the tax revenue.

But I could see CHS county try to do a hostile takeover of IOP city hall.
Which might get interesting. Finally, the IOP code enforcement guy might get to use his AR-15 he keeps latched to his chest. And IOP police can use it's hummers to try and block palm blvd, and CHS County Sheriff can use their SWAT team armored troop carrier to do a pincer maneuver going over Ben Sawyer bridge:

It's already a pretty ridiculous concept for police departments to buy and employ surplus military equipment, but IOP? Why in the sh would IOP need Hummers, like, ever? In case one of those Folly-style parties breaks out with a bunch of bussed in Ohio and Jersey people?

They only drag them out for concert traffic control and the "look at our hummer" type stuff when they shutdown Ocean blvd in front of The Windjammer to the sea cabins. Walking home from the Dinghy I would see them parked under the new IOP palatial town hall.
The hummers aren't anything compared to the Code enforcement guy driving around the island in his own marked side x side.. with an AR or a M-14 strapped to the front of his bullet proof vest. I can't imagine what the need for him playing army guy dress up is.

I'm sure they won't let you transport fish, or any wildlife like starfish or seashells.
or weapons.
plus, you'd need a separate fishing license.

My neighbor that ran for town council last year told me that she felt at some point, IOP was going to attempt to be a private island. City council is basically a voting block monolith now, and primarily represent the interest of the megamansion / airbnb owners, and of course, Wild Dunes. BTW..the new Mayor has only lived on the island since 2015..and bought property their in 2010. He has deep pockets from working a career in the "financial services industry".
She (my neighbor) was telling me of some pretty wild stuff that City Council had planned...like getting rid of the parking spots the state made them put in on Ocean blvd, and make an "express lane" directly to Wild Dunes, so the LDR's wouldn't have to wait on the Summerville/N CHS poors backing up traffic when they were packing up from a day at the beach, and standing by their car pulling the sand spurs out of their feet.
Other stuff was more boring but equal in it purpose, but involved legislation condemning everyone's septic tank, forcing all owners to join city sewer and water...at about a $10k cost for each house plus monthly sewer bills, essentially tripling their monthly water bill. Incidentally, that coincides with the building of a massive new sewer treatment station at the end of the island.
So yeah...all this is in jest...sorta.
