They overachieved last season with great special teams and Sellers surprising people. I don’t think they improved personnel-wise in the offseason (net loss to attrition vs new additions) and teams will have Sellers figured out. He’ll likely take many more hits and will be lucky to make it to our game healthy.
What am I missing?

Longer tenured head coach expected to do better things. Not sure that's possible down there though.
Young talent in key spots. They've got a threat at QB, and some young DLs that could change games.
Still a toss up and one you factor in Pitchfork Ben that chicken curse should bite em again as expected this year.
They're a promised perennial national failure. Hype or not. Coots gonna coot, yo. No worries

Their defense was actually pretty stout last year and they have some returns. Their offense was young and they have Sellars. Honestly not looking through Orange glasses, their team would probably be at least top 3 in ACC. I dont think their Def will be as good but their Off will be better to make them equal.
I would not look past them once again as we seem to do at home. They have every chance to be as strong as any ACC team we play this year.

They have a recent history of following a better-than-expected year with disappointment. In 2017, Muschamp had them 9-3. They followed that with 7-5, 4-8, and 2-8. In comes Beamer. He rebounds (somewhat) with 6-6 and a bowl win, then 8-4 (with a Gator Bowl invite), only to drop to 5-7. I don't expect they're going to fall off a cliff, but they lost a lot off that defense.
I've seen predictions for a 9 win season. If you give them VA Tech, SC State, Kentucky, Vandy, and Coastal, they gotta win four out of Mizzou, LSU, Oklahoma, Alabma, Ole MIss, A&M, and Clemson. I see maybe two wins there, Mizzou and maybe one other they probably shouldn't win. 7-5 is their ceiling. For that program, not bad.

Excellent assessment. 8 wins tops. AtM has talent and unfortunately for the rest of the sec, they finally have a coach. Could possibly pull out a shootout upset of ole miss. But to get the 8th W, that leaves lsu, Bama, Oklahoma, or us.
If they beat any 3 of those sec teams, lsu, bama, or Oklahoma, said team will be looking for a head coach... especially when we beat lsu... don't think Kelly survives a scar loss. So I totally agree, to get the possible 8th W, they'd have to upset us... and that ain't happening. But I do think a lot of those games will be 4th qtr games.
If they win 9 games, they'll make the playoffs. And I'd definitely have to tip my cap to beamer.

Unfortunately I think they win 4 out of that last 7. I could see Mizzou, LSU, OK and either OM or Bama. But I do see them losing a random one to start for another 7-5. I think LSU crushes after pressure and Kelly gets fired. They beat OK last year and will not be afraid. OM has their usual lapse for 2-3 games. Bama just ends up not being that great and loses 3 games again this year.
Clemson will take them out but only after the 4th qtr. A&M is gonna be really good because they finally have a good coach unfortunately. Elko will make them a contender. TEX, TxAM , UGA are the top of SEC with Bama and TN close 2nd. Other teams are far 3nd like Coots, OK, FL, LSU, and rest 4th like KY, Vandy, etc.

Statistically that game was closer than the score. Oklahoma won most statistical categories (granted, that isn't where games are won). The Sooners were in a 21-point hole about 5 minutes into it. That was the story of that game. I think the Sooners get them this year.

I gave you a TU, but it was by accident. I dont think it was due to Dabo's approach. I love Dabo's approach. The coots have just done a good job on their own. Dabo is doing a solid job. They coots needed then portal worse than we did. Its working for them though. They have a good balance going.

It was most surely Dabos approach . This is the 1st year Dabo has used the portal while the ##### have been using it big time to load up with talent . Even when the recruiting went south, Dabo still did not go to the portal to fix issues . His refusal to portal coupled with the terrible decision to hire Wes Goodwin set Clemson back years . He let the ##### close the gap with poor decisions . There is a reason they have beaten us 2 out of last 3 now .

I love his approach. I like the way he built the team and I like the approach moving forward. He shows loyalty and only uses the portal when definitely needed. I wouldn't change a thing.

Your coots spent a lot of money begging players to come to the Roach motel and play . They will win the first 4 games dueto playing low caliber teams . They will run mouths get excited and do chest bumps in the mirror .
Then reality starts to set in and will end the season with 5 losses .
Once AGAIN like every year they will watch the playoffs on TV instead of participating.

Not true, Sellars is bigger and stronger than Kelly.. He runs well for big dude, Kelly was better runner. Sellars had a decent OL and a defense that was stout. Our defense made Sellars look way better than he actually was but that was coaching. Our tackling was atrocious and got worse all year.
My guess is that if we played that same personnel but only exchanged 1yr of new Def Coach Allen, we would see different results. Our defense tackling was comical at times. If Allen doesn't make huge improvements then fire his rear as we were not well coached in 2024.

Our offense was atrocious in this game also . We held them to 17 points even with awful tackling and dumbfounded coaching but should have scored more than 14 points .

The thing is Sellers will have a better more experienced OL with less injuries this year, and I’m afraid with more time back there he could develop into a better passer for them too.

Bryant was a good runner, Sellers is an elite runner and one of the best athletes in CFB, regardless of position. He's closer to a Lamar Jackson-caliber runner than KB-caliber.

Shane’s last season in SC if they do well this season, as bad as I hate to say it, Shane has done a good job, imagine trying to coach there.

Although I think they will win and are much better, I am not conceding the Virginia Tech game. Traditionally, the coots have struggled in their first game when they play a decent team. I guess the question is whether VaTech is a decent team. Specifically, they have struggled to beat ECU in recent years to start their season.

He does need to take a step forward as a passer to truly be an elite Heisman contender, but sometimes its just difficult to stop an athlete of his caliber even if you know what he wants to do.

He looks like Milroe ( who ranks 40th ) at Alabama.
Excellent runner but thats it.
Bottle him up and shut down the running backs and thats ballgame.

I agree. It makes no. Sense to me either. The one knock on Sellers is that his passing is suspect. Pretty important attribute for a QB. Good runner though.

AS an LSU fan, I don't get it either. Last year felt like about as good as they can be and they still lost 3 games. I just don't see it. Sure, Sellers is nice but can he pass the ball? DO they have WRs? DO they have a RB, Sanders is gone. Is their defense gonna as good as they were? Seems like a stretch to answer yes to all of these questions.

It rarely feels like they're actually better than some of the teams they beat, it's like they have to rely on the other team going full ###### or a bunch of key calls to go their way like the reviews against us or the no TD call for ILL in the bowl game that led to a turnover the very next play. Every time I see them play it feels like I end up saying..."that's a very SC thing to have happen". They're offense wasn't even that good, it was the defense that got them by, and they lost about 8 starters from last year. They better plan on scoring 30+ every game this year.

A defense that was virtually gutted.
This is the team, now minus that defense, who got embarrassed by Illinois is an extremely meaningful bowl game for Beamer and the program. They fell flat on their face.
I’m not at all concerned with them. Just imo.

I tend to agree with your assessment, they do have some talent and Beamer is pretty consistent and positive so they make a good story. Thats essentially the reason. I agree about Sellars, he wont catch anyone sleeping on him this year and teams will a absolutely force him to win by throwing the ball. Halfway through the season a lot of mobile QB’s start to show some wear and tear as well if they dont end up injured. Its not a way you want to bank on winning the whole thing with.
