What is the prob playin 9 Conf games SC a FCS team & quality

BCS team every year? We would play 7 homes one year and 6 the next,
I'd rather pay $75 a ticket one season for a quality opponent than $35 a ticket for for 2 tickets over 2 seasons to get 7 home games each season. The money would be the same.
Example if we had 9 Conf games
2016 Home (team - ticket price) Coastal-$35, Louisville-$50, NCSt-$50, Syracuse-$50, Pitt-$50, SC-$75 (total $310) Away Ole Miss, Wake, FSU, GT, BC, Miami
2017 Home Wofford-$35, Ole Miss-$75, Wake-$40, FSU-$75, GT-$50, BC-$50, Miami-$50 (total $375) Away Louisville, NCSt, Syracuse, UNC, SC
2 year total $685 for season tickets
Example of how it would be with only 8 Conf games with a lower tear FBS school if we are lucky but probably a FCS school like this year
2016 Home (team - ticket price) Coastal-$35, Troy-$35, Louisville-$50, NCSt-$50, Syracuse-$50, Pitt-$50, SC-$75 (total $345) Away Wake, FSU, GT, BC
2017 Home Wofford-$35, Ball St-$35, Wake-$40, FSU-$75, GT-$50, BC-$50, Miami-$50 (total $335) Away Louisville, NCSt, Syracuse, UNC, SC
2 year total $680 for season tickets $5 less than with a quality team. Probably could up $10 more $ to make up for concession sales less difference for the cost of a Home game (ie staff, police etc)

Remember ND is involved also

So that will replace one quality opponent but I would think we would play quality opponents 4 out of 6 years and the other two be home games.

I don't think your math works out. First, the price differential is too high. The price for a quality out of conference team is typically closer to a confernce game than it is to the usc game. Second, it excludes concession sales except for a comment that we could raise ticket prices another $10 to make up for lost concessions. If the ticket price is already too high, you're not going to be able to make it $10 higher.
The only thing in favor of that argument would be that you would sell more tickets to a quality out of conference opponent than you would to a game against an FCS school. However, if the first game is against SC State, I'll probably go because I haven't been to a Clemson football game in 8-9 months.

That 7th home game is vitally important for the bottom line.

And it is not just the ticket sales.

Think of the effect of removing a home game would have on the city of Clemson.
Then the University gets money for consessions, etc.

It can be done but South Carolina would be our only significant non-conference game.
In the year's we have 4 conference home (5 away) then that is when we have SC at home. That gives us 5 home games. We then would have to schedule two lower quality teams at home that don't want us to return to their stadium.
The only way I could see us not having 7 home games would be if we played a named opponent at a neutral site. I believe we got paid very well for the Chick-fil-a Kickoff classic.

Yes, a neutral site game that pays would help. We can't, however, schedule the little sisters of the poor in Charlotte.

Everything I have heard said that the two Chick-fil-a games were both a wash financially compared to a home game.
The money we bring in for a home game is far more than just tickets sold, and it really adds up.

The OP addressed the financial issues. His point was that if we just increased the price of a quality OOC game to more than double the price of the tier 2 schools that don't demand a home rematch. I don't hink his numbers work, but he did address it.

However given the option of scheduling a home and home with a decent opponent vs an extra home game every other year with a scrub, anyone looking at financial benefit is going to take the guaranteed cash over the potential benefit of playing a name opponent.

TexTiger, I'm with you on this, but the administration doesn't see it this way. They feel like they have to have 7 home games EVERY year-- not every other. I wouldn't mind a 9th conference game if we were guaranteed to play two BCS teams (SCar + 1 other) every year, but it won't happen. So, I'm firmly for 8 conference games.

We should play 9 ACC games, 2 mid level BCS, & coots.

Years where we get ND.......there is your occasional "big" other game & play only one BCS mid level and coots. WIN and we will be in the mix for everything we desire any year.

The ACC teams were better. We need the SOS. However, ND is in the mix which would mean jeopardizing the 7th home game. Don't see that happening. If we had anything to do with scheduling I think we'd be more comfortable with that, but knowing the ACC we'd get a road ND game in a year that we had only 4 home ACC games.
