was done, and I swear my hand was moving to the "off" switch just when they found me. I gave them the still-running trimmer and took off as fast as my legs could move...me AND the dog. I got popped three times on the pinky finger, once on my inner thigh, once near my bellybutton, and in a move of further humilation...once on my ####! The dog yelped twice. I was able to remove my shirt while running so I could beat them off of her back.
Found two full stingers and one piece in my pinky. Unusual for yellow jackets to lose their stingers by they were 'All In". An hour later it felt like my two fingers were under the wheel of a parked car. Stayed like that all night despite Ms. The Mole's array of at-home treatments which were peppered with snarky comments about the locations of my wounds.
For those of you keeping score...despite my pain I did go out after dark to retrieve my trimmer AND to deliver a bottle of gas to, and inside, the front door of the offenders' nest.
The Georgia Tech game will carry a special grudge this year. Go Tigers!

Oh, so you really got attacked?
I thought your post was a euphemism for our upcoming game against GT.

They flew up his pants leg and one got him square on the head. He had to aim at a 45 degree angle to the toilet until the swelling went down. He said he thought he was having a heart attack when it happened.

Reminds me of a neighbor we had a few year ago...

They had a couple of raised planter beds made from railroad ties. We were standing on their driveway one afternoon talking to them when a couple of hornets crawled through a hole in one of railroad ties. My idiot neighbor took his garden hose and sprayed it into the hole. Just as I was saying, "I don't think that's such a good idea", they were all over him like a chicken on June Bug. He got stung about twelve times before he could get into his house.

It was late February and while we had a relatively mild winter, I was not expecting those evil little b@$tards to have set-up shop in my Pompas Grass quite so early. They managed to zap me about four times before I dropped the hedge trimmer and got away.

Man. That rough. I have felt the ire of a yellow jacket neat. It’s not fun. Flash back to the early 90’s on the banks of the Saluda River. The trout truck had just dumped its payload of extra large trout and they were all schooled up in one bend. There was some pushed up dirt piles a couple years old I had to stand on to reach this treasure trove of trout. As I stood there in shorts, I kept feeling something crawling on my legs. I didn’t even looked just quickly brushed them away while trying to catch some delicious trout. Next thing I knew they bit back. I got stung 16 times. As I ran I was stripping off clothes and trying to not drop my fishing rod and tackle. I was standing in my underwear in plain view of highway 11. Not a great day. I’d take a honey bee sting any day over a yellow jacket. Those things are brutal!

16 times would put me into the hospital. I got popped 13 times as a kid. My foot went into a stump hole as were were running through the woods. Back then you wore "dungarees" and they were as stiff as a board. Couldn't get them off quick enough. My mother just rubbed me down with Witch Hazel and told me not to cry.
The last bad stinging I got was 8 times when I lived near Clemson. Ran over them with a mower. I felt like I had the flu for three days.

We had the same problem. Probably about 4 years in a row. Last year was the first year we didn’t have them nesting in our back yard.

I have dealt w them a couple times. I know from my grandpa even being near gasoline kills them. So. I find out their exact location and wait till sundown when they have all gone to rest for the night. A little unleaded cocktail unleashed by surprise and problem solved

Haven't had to do battle with yellow jackets this year so far (knock on wood) but have had some skirmishes with wasps.

Back in the early 80’s I was working for the county during the summer and was bush hogging the ditch bank on a dirt road when all of a sudden I hit a nest hidden in a bush. Needless to say I left tractor and bush hog still cutting coming to a stop when it hit a phone pedestal next thing I know it looked like a bird nest of wires sticking up in the air. Only got stung 3 times so I think I was mighty lucky.

A couple of years ago I was in the woods cutting some branches with a 12’ limb saw to open up a shooting lane at one of my deer stands. When the saw cut through the branch the end of the saw and the branch fell to the ground and must have landed right on a yellow jacket nest. Before I could lift the saw, they were on me. I ran about 40 yards swatting them as I ran. 4 got me - one on my neck, 2 on my arm and one on my hand. I said some bad words. Then went and got my saw and went to work at another stand. Daggum things burn like fire.

Speaking of deer stands and wasps

Once I had permission to hunt on 40 acres along a dirt road. It had a hunt club beside the property and some jerk built a tower stand before opening day with the front 2 legs across the fence on the property that I was going to hunt. When I checked the property out , the stand had a padlock on the door which I fixed by breaking a paper clip off inside it. Went by there on opening day afternoon and saw the guy was so determined to use the stand that he ripped the hinges off to get inside…. … the stand had a huge wasp nest on the floor and numerous wasps still flying around. Message sent - don’t trespass or be prepared for consequences!
