I'm doing a write-up on Clemson football history/tradition and want some of your opinions on this one.

Beating Nebraska is Orange Bowl 1981

For me,
1981 vs Nebraska 1977 vs SCAR 1966 vs Virginia 1977 vs Notre Dame 2012 vs LSU
PS: Loved 63-17, but only because of the score and the opponent.

But the Auburn game @ Death Valley in the late 60's that was pouring rain will always be special to me. She and I couldn't leave the bus, and that paid dividends. Does that count as a greatest game?

You sure you don't mean the 1979 Notre Dame game?

Joe Montana in DV and the Irish ended up #1 that year.
By 79, Notre Dame was pretty average. Still, winning in South Bend was indeed epic!

OK, I just didn't think you would pick a loss as one of your five top games.

was the Puntrooski game, even though we lost. Treadwell kicks against UGA right up there too. We had some great ones against Maryland in the 80's as well.

the Butt whoopin we put on FSU the next year in Talley was one of the best I have ever enjoyed. Also really enjoyed beating Barry Switzer and Jo Pa in the late Danny days. Beating Miami in their house was also sweet. Then of course, 4th and 16 against the "Death Valley wannabees".

That had to have been a great game. I was in Navy; and at that time, I was in the Middle East. I didn't even know The Tigers had won until a couple of weeks, after the game.

I always liked the 1992 Virginia game, where we were behind 28-0 but came back to win it 29-28, on the road no less.
Virginia was undefeated and ranked #10 that year (we were ranked #25).

I love the fact that U$uC is not mentioned.
Aug 15, 2013, 7:02 PM

But I enjoyed the 1976 victory over U$uC in Death Valley. It was Red Parker's last game. Clemson was a heavy underdog. Rumor had it that Parker had to win that game to keep his job. He won the game, but lost his job. I remember celebrating downtown BIG TIME after that game. Nothing better than celebrating a big rivalry victory in Clemson and being able to walk home to the dorm. And it was my final game as a student. We chanted this all night long:
I saw a gamecock in the snow. His wing was broke, he could not go. I coaxed him close with crumbs of bread, and then I crushed his f&!&@n head!!!

1. Orange Bowl Win over Nebraska 22-15 (Only one of my top 5 that I missed) 2. Clemson 63 USuC 17 -- # 3 best night of my life behind the birthdays of my two boys. The only thing better than the game was the Gamecock call in show on the radio while driving home from Crotchlumbia. 3. 1978 Gator Bowl - Tigers 17 Ohio State 15, Woody Hayes fired and the beginning of a legend...Coach Ford. 4. The Catch 1- Clemson November 19, 1977 (My first game at Willy B)- Jerry Butler makes incredible catch in the end zone for 31-27 victory over USuC 5. Clemson 13 Georgia 3 in 1981, our first win over a top 10 team ever and the catalyst that started the National Title run.
There are many other that could easily be mentioned...Clemson over Oklahoma in Citrus Bowl, Clemson over LSU in Peach, Clemson over Tennessee in Peach, Clemson over Notre Dame in South Bend, Clemson 45 USuC 0, Clemson 16 USuC 14 The Catch II, Clemson over GT on Gameday 31-7, Clemson over Maryland in 1978 in College Park 28-24 to win the ACC, Clemson over GT in overtime in Atlanta, Clemson over Miami in overtime in Miami, Clemson over UNC 10-8 in Chapel Hole in 1981, Clemson 26 FSU 10 in 2003, Clemson over VT for ACC title two years ago.
