Nick Saban - Texas Long Horns! Hmmmm!

Jul 9, 2019, 7:14 PM

https://247sports.com/college/texas/Article/Nick-Saban-Alabama-Crimson-Tide-Texas-Longhorns-coach-133530320/

I would love to hear opinions about how him going there would change the landscape of college football. Would he like it in the Big 12 with all the 5 wide - air raid stuff?
Would UGA become the current Bama of the SEC-ond?
Would all the propaganda be: "whoever wins the Big 12 should almost just be given the nat'l title?

Nicky and what he has done and what Urban did at Florida is a huge reason for the facade of the SEC-ond conference. Nikki has won the title at LSU and Bama! What and when did LSU win one before Nikki? 03 and 07(Les Miles won with a team that was still heavily "Sabaned"). Urban Meyer won a couple in Gainesville.

Texas - not a bad place to recruit! All the support and resources he could ever ask for. But, would he really leave Tuscaloosa, Alabama for Austin, Texas?

Nah, we move into the SEC, run the coots out, and then we become the the coat tail for the rest of the sec to ride on. The coots would have to go first though, bc we would never allow that trash to touch our coat tail!!! Well that sounds as good as Saban going to Texass!!!

LOL!

I just don't know if I buy what the regent is selling here. Why would Nikita Saban want to leave that cash cow that is bamer! I know Tex-iz has the Lawn-hown network and all; but bamer has money too! At his age seems like it would not be a good move. Note: nothing wrong with his age; just that at what point do you say, "I don't want to have to rebuild"! How many years to get it built before age catches up to him?

And much like Dabo: when you have built something from basically the bottom, it isn't easy to just walk away.
Kind of like some of the Fast N Loud cars they rebuild. They are hard to walk away from so says that entire team; "because you know what it was when you got it"! But, when you are getting the kind of money they are it's tough; but something you have to do. Dabo is being well compensated at Clemson too BTW. As far as Saban - it wouldn't be about money if he actually really considered Texas! Something else would have to motivate a move like that.

I live in Texas. Needless to say, UT dominates CFB discussion here. It's oppressive and sickening like carbon dioxide. I feel like the only Clemson supporter in the state.

There was a reason it took so long for Saban and Alabama to agree on an extension that year. It was because Saban wanted to come to UT, they wanted to hire him but Mack Brown would have none of it.

It dominated discussion here for a couple weeks. Ole Mack fought like a tiger to keep it from happening because he knew how bad Saban would make him look. Mack was basically on a long victory lap his last 3-4 years at UT. He was running out of gas and it showed. Very enjoyable for me. He was so complacent it wasn't even funny. But he's very good at the political game and knew how to stroke the right UT boosters. He was so well connected and burrowed in there was no way the AD or administration could do anything without his approval.

You better believe Mack enjoyed every minute of Charley Strong's failure. He did NOT want his successor to do well.

The time off in the studio has given him some life back and UNC will get 2-3 years very good recruiting. He's a CEO type of coach, not an X & O guy. Beyond talent, success on the field will depend on how good his assistants are. Besides recruiting and running a very soft program, his biggest downfall near the end at UT was poor coordinators.

And pray tell, who are Mack's coordinators and assistants? Are they good? Will the Tarholes now gobble up every hot recruit in North Carolina? Any insight here?

Would a guy in Texas know the inside scoops of North Carolina football?

I dont know about the poor coordinators thing. They may

have been young and inexperienced, but his DC from 2011-2013 was Manny Diaz and Bryan Harsin was Co-OC in 2011 and 2012. Those guys are both head coaches now, and Diaz has been a very good DC since leaving Texas.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very true, and to add on, Harsin had to share OC duties

w/ Major Applewhite. Harsin was primary play caller, but Applewhite was most likely the fly in the ointment. Diaz did stink it up at Texas but I'm of the opinion it was because of Brown's letting the program slide like it did. It certainly rubbed off on the coaches, players, and surely affected recruiting. Diaz has been respectable at other places.
