All this Tenn. butthurt reminds us old farts of

the 1976 game Clemson played against the Viles in Knoxville. The Tigers were cheated badly by their hosts and despite the Tigers protests and the NCAA's concurrence that Tennessee had in fact violated the rules, absolutely nothing was done.
The main play in question was a Tenn. pass play. Easley's own Stanley Morgan and another player ran off the field as one substitute ran to their huddle. Just as soon as the Clemson defender on that side of the field took a different position, Morgan surreptitiously stepped one foot back into the field of play....at the snap, the Tenn QB simply turned and threw the ball to the unguarded Morgan who promptly scampered for the touchdown that proved to be the deciding points in the game.
Despite the relative proximity of the schools, Clemson has NEVER scheduled another game in Knoxville..and I, for one, hope they never do....the Chick-fil-A Bowl was reminder enough of poor sportsmanship behavior by their fans...also served as a reminder the Viles football program is middle of the pack in the pathetic SECLeast

The one thing I remember happened after the game, the Holiday Inn Sign was changed to reflect just those feelings.

I'll always remember the sign that CU provided in the end zone "NOTHING SUCKS LIKE A BIG ORANGE"

We played them in Knox in 74 and in 76 ... cheated us twice

Once in 1976 on the Stanley Morgan "hidden player" thing already mentioned and also earlier in 1974 when Condredge Holloway completed a pass for a 2-point conversion while his offensive linemen were all in the end zone illegally run blocking.
We didn't see the Vols on the field again until the 2003 Chic-fil-a Bowl where revenge was especially sweet.

That was not nearly the sum of it. Red Parker protested the illegal play and was penalized 45 yards on one play, a record for games of my witness. Despite a totally homer one sided officiated game for the rest of the game, as if they had not hosed us enough, the Tigers fought back and lost by missed conversions, something like 21-19. Never seen anything like the homerism in Obnoxville even in chickentown. Remember they chickened out of a trip to CU because we beat them out of recruits, and they turned us in and thus the early 1980s probation. They, of course, deserve much worse for every year ten years before and since, but of course they are in the unapproachable S SHE SHE.
I say the heck with it, we owe them. Let's play them anywhere and kick their ###.

Two games were played in Knoxville...

1974 was the Stanley Morgan sideline play...Tenn scored late and we were up by 1...Conridge Holloway ran all over the field trying the 2-pt conversion...we almost had him down and he throws a hail-mary to 6'4" Lary Seivers who was being covered by our little 5'8" Jimmy Ness...Tenn had several linemen in the endzone and the play should have been called back but it wasn't...Tommy West was on that Tenn team...can't remember if he said he was on the field for that play or not...we used to talk about that game... Red Parkers' multiple 25 yd penalties were in the 1976 game...think we lost that one 21-19

I'll never forget Duanne Coleman slapping the Tennessee guy.

They met at mid field for the coin toss. The Tennessee guy mouthed off and Coleman slapped the sh*t out of him. Set the tone for the whole game.

Another SEC team we we're going to get "smashed" by in a bowl game. They we're #6(?) entering that Chick-Fil-A Bowl?
