So son of Obed is a good kid...really good kid in fact...if he was a battery, he would be maintenance free. He's turning 9 tomorrow, just as a point of reference.
A) He stayed at some good friend's house this weekend while the Mrs and I went out of town. I find out today that he passed along to their kids his knowledge of the words "sh##" and "b#tch", which they attempted to impress their mom with at the table this a.m. So now I get to ponder how to punish that one.
B) Last night at dinner he says, "Hey, I know this isn't a topic for the dinner table, but do babies come out of lady's hiney holes?" So it looks like I get to drop "the talk" on him too, in the same week no less.
Fun times indeed.

kind of relationship where he knows he can come to me if he hears a word at school and I'll explain it and he won't get in trouble, and he's done that. But he also knows that part of that deal is that he knows that there is a difference between knowing those words and using those words.
I had told him that once he turned 9, he could ride his bike around the neighborhood without my parental escort, and he's been big on that. I think to make my point that with maturity comes responsibility, I'm going to postpone that privilege for a month.

That's what we tell our kids. Our culture deems them impolite, so we don't say them, but there is nothing inherently wrong with saying a word.
Just be polite son. NBD.

and to just let it go? The child will find out about reproduction on the internets. There are lots of instructive videos there. Why should you bother? And language, don't we want them to have a wide and rich vocabulary?
This last point was actually expressed to a group of parents (including your servant) by a public school elementary principal when the discussion of choice language was discussed at an orientation once.
