Keith Whitley was a tortured treasure that alcohol took from us far too soon.

You look at the life he had, country music success (albeit later on), married to a drop dead GORGEOUS Lorrie Morgan, kids, and you ask yourself, "Why on earth would a man with all that going for him want to literally drink himself to death?"

The answer of course is, addiction, real addiction, in any form, is such a powerful thing that those of us who have never suffered from it can never really understand the immense power it holds over those in the thrall of it.

Whitley's addiction was alcohol, but other drugs are just as bad or worse. But, let's remember, the drugs themselves are not the problem, it is MISUSE of the drugs in most cases, other than purely illegal, "recreational" drugs like cocaine or heroin.

The drug problems will never be solved by trying to take away the supply. Indeed, alcohol, for one, is legal. The guvmint tried to take away that supply back with Prohibition, how did that work out for us? The only real answer is to take away the DEMAND, by education, proper treatment, and support systems for the individuals and families of individuals who suffer from addiction. OK, falling off the soapbox now...

I have never known it to be to early or late for a beer, a connoisseur of good beer doesn't discriminate!
