between a 4-2 and 5-1 record and a whole lot of different buzz in rankings and from the media & fans overall positive perception of this team.
As Dabo & a zillion coaches over time have said, FB comes down to 1 play or an inch..and damnn they are right.
Still, the O isn’t up to needed standards for consecutive weeks of worthy achievements and would probably get beaten b/4 all was said and done.
But, to dream of the possibilities that a made FG in regulation could have done for a Cinderella ending story, or how loud the noise meter would have shown if Tigers had won, or the eruption of fans “meeting” at the PAW..
rather than the true ending and a large tribe of Florida Indians scalping our PAW for souvenirs.
As Dabo saids, it’s won or lost by inches~

If we make a short FG, the game likely never gets to OT...

If we had looked as good vs WF as we did then, I think we’d all be feeling a lot more like that game was the difference in us being a top ten team as opposed to feeling like we just aren’t there right now. Still love the Tigers and trust they can turn on the juice.

on all eight cylinders and I pity the team that we're playing when that happens.

It's as much a consistency issue as anything.***

the last 3ish years are lesser talent AND youth, compared to our heydays.

For the Tigers not having at least a mediocre place kicker. All spring, summer and fall practice to find and develop a guy who can make a 40 yard field goal every try.

Clemson FB gets overly enamored with physical characteristics (not necessarily physique itself, but the output from those physical characteristics).
DJU - golden power arm. CK2 - very fast runner. Robert Gunn - huge power leg. Dacari Collins, Ajou Ajou, E.J.Williams, Antoine Green (the WR we missed who went to UNC; A.Williams was our ‘Plan B’). - tall guys.
Both QBs suffered / suffer from accuracy problems. The kicker isn’t close to being accurate on FGs. The 3 WRs that signed with us all had the dropsies, and wouldn’t block.
We’ve lucked into A.Williams and T.Brown. That J.Weitz was available at all is pure luck. Even if Weitz isn’t great, his misses have generally been close. Gunn’s FG attempts were at risk of hitting the sidelines. Neither QB had / have shown any signs of being consistently accurate.
(*). We need more focus on QB accuracy, WR route running & ball skills, and kickers that demonstrate accuracy & not necessarily all-world power.

but the coaches can't see into a kids head and know how he's going to react when he walks out on the field in front of 80,000 fans and hundreds of thousand more watching at home on television. Kids who perform well practice don't always perform as well in front of crowds or when faced with the pressure of an actual game.

Regarding Gunn, I didn’t get the vibe from Dabo that he was getting it done sufficiently in practice either. The competition was more of the lesser of the ugly. Now we hear that he’s been struggling with a quad injury for weeks. Not sure why Dabo held that back until this week.

Hahaha. If I hadn’t said yes to my ex wife that one day I’d have a lot less aggravation and a lot more money. Maybe that all came down to inches also. Hmmmmmmmmm!?

As EVERYONE says… a game of inches. The whole one or two play thing people talk about grinds my gears.
