I always felt when the NIL thing started that if a student athlete is reporting to the IRS that they make over a gross income of 200K a year, they should be voided of receiving an athletic scholarship since they are more than able to pay for the ride themselves.

worms the would open. Different states with different rules, different universities with different limits. All this on top of the crap show that NIL is now.

Yeah, the NCAA dived into NIL without viewing or instilling any safety bands to keep it all stable. This will be viewed in retrospect as a weird semi-dark age for college sports for all eternity.

The NCAA didn't "dice" into NIL. It was theists upping them.

However, the certainly haven't handled it well, especially in light of the change in transfer portal rules.

I believe that, individually, the NIL situation and the current transfer portal rules don't create the dark age, but together they are almost midnight. The extra year for COVID probably exacerbated the issue.

But I also think (perhaps naively) that changes will come to the transfer portal rules to limit some of the craziness.

The states don't pay except Life which is based on academic merit. Citzens choose to give. The schools then pay through those donations to IPTAY and Coot Club. No state dollars spent by tax paying citizens.

Scholarships are provided with private donations to service organizations and to IPTAY, not state tax revenue.

Good luck with that. The players will go elsewhere.
