But for a program whose collective toughness had been questioned against elite teams, this felt like a breakthrough, even more than winning the ACC in 2011 for the first time in 20 years.

the last one before 2011.

I hate they way they phrase these things. Clemson has been to lots of big-time Bowl games (Orange, Sugar, Cotton) but only once to the BCS Orange Bowl. Same with ACC Championship--tons of those but we have only won 1X in the ACC Championship Game.
