Then every Altima, because I've never not seen one with a crushed tail light, dented in fender or worse...doing 90 on the interstate.

4 lane divided highway. The car passed me going probably 65, traffic everywhere, slammed on the brakes right after he zoomed around me because there were more cars and stop lights ahead. Anyways, it was a Nissan Altima, spare tire on left rear, temporary tags on back.

Its sort of an amazing sociology experiment.

If you think about it, no one buys a Nissan Altima on purpose. Literally ever other competing sedan is better. You buy one because it’s the best option YOU have. It’s the lesser of all the evils. Either you’re getting the 2013 Altima at the buy here pay here lot, or you’re getting the 2008 Ford Fusion with 75k more miles.
So you’re already known to be one who has been kicked around by life, likely made a lifetime of bad decisions, and this car is just a rolling metaphor for how little you have to lose.
There are tens of thousands of Altimas being released into the wild by fleet owners every year, so there are tens of thousands of people with this lot in life. These people have no F’s left to give.
So Covid comes around. Traffic is sparse, enforcement is non-existent. Someone is going to be the first to take the bait and run with this newfound highway anarchy, doing 90+mph everywhere they go and generally ignoring all basic road courtesy and laws. Who are they? The Altima owners. The bitter people whose life motto is “KMA” and nothing but disdain for all the cars around them owned by people who did have car-buying options.
Covid’s over, but their Covid-inspired driving boldness and indifference remains.
