Zero catches for our tight ends Saturday. Why do we have

them? I guess NC State wasn't "giving us" the tight end so we didn't take it. Only 3 receivers had catches Saturday and 2 of them only had 3 catches total. Why not involve the tight end in the football game in some form or fashion.
Why would Sage Innis, Jaelyn Lay or Jake Briningstool not hit the portal when our starters are so unproductive yet these guys can't see the field?

I thought TE would be a position of strength on this team with 88 84 and even all the talk about 85 and the two younger guys. Guys who have at this point had several years in the system, 88 and 84 especially appeared really good and like future stars.
With a struggling QB wouldn't you think quick hitters to TEs and RBs would be one way to get the QB going? I haven't seen us pass to either TE or RB much at all. One reason could be they are often times last in a progression, and DJ's biggest weakness right now is working through his progression quickly instead of locking in on first target and totally busting if he isn't open.
All of this is really puzzling to me. I understand you have ups and downs as a program but it really feels like we drove off a cliff, something has to be wrong within the program we don't know about it.

Yep. It is baffling. 88 has been a total bust this year.

Not sure why he couldn't get any stronger over 4 years with our strength and nutrition programs. 84 looks good, but we don't use him. Lay looked great in the spring game. Large man, huge target, which you would think would be helpful considering our struggles in the passing game and blocking in the run game. Briningstool the #1 TE in the country. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
I really do think a lot of our problems are DJ. He just can't process anything consistently well right now and execute and the coaches don't trust him to do it. With our dearth of talent in the RB room, that pressure on DJ will skyrocket.

But how was he able to do it in his two starts last year?
This whole situation is so weird, its like a microcosm of the larger global environment we find ourselves in where so many things just don't make sense, don't add up.
Absolutely bizarre.

last year to this year, it does suggest head and confidence problems. Either that or his performance last year was an outlier.

A lot of things have to happen correctly for a forward pass

to be successful, and most of our issues don't involve what happens after the ball is thrown accurately. DJ DID hit Galloway in the chest on a play that will become the dictionary picture for the word "drop", on what would have been a surefire TD. I did say most, not all.
We haven't really used TEs for years. Last year was the most we'd thrown to TEs since Jordan Leggett. They barely caught anything the year we crushed Alabama in the Natty. As for the talent, Jaelyn Lay is slow and couldn't catch water in bucket if it was raining; he's had tons of chances. The other guys are still young, but you do have to wonder why any TE would want to come here when they can clearly see how little we use our TEs. Kinda like the receivers that committed to Georgia Tech during the Pawwwwwwl years just to block for the triple option pitches.

Where have you seen Jaelyn Lay drop passes? Has he been

targeted more than once in his career? Did you see the Spring game when he caught everything?
Even if true, have you seen #88 catch anything thrown his way?
Time to see who can actually perform in a game.

and than started chirping for a PI flag on one play. Still can't understand why this guy starts in front of the other TE's on the roster. He's regressed.

That's what I see when I watch Galloway. His effort is poor

He's half hearted in his effort to block anybody. I just don't see why we can't play a single backup at the position given that.

Look who took over the TE coaching. Same thing happened last year with the greatest RB. It's all about coaching. OC TE is calling the plays but nothing to the position group he coaches.
It's a rough year. Hopefully something good comes out of the next 8 games.
Go TIGERS!!!

not surprise me if he is reluctant to play the backups or do anything off s c r i p t.
I had to space that out because Tnet thought it was foul language.

If not…then that would be a good reason not to play them.

Every time I have noticed the ball thrown to them, they have not catched it. Not every ball was thrown perfectly, but some should have been caught....and some would have been caught in years past even if not thrown perfectly
