a few random thoughts and observations from the scrimmage

in no particular order...
D. Hunter was the first guard sub. he has huge potential... could see him being a floor leader. but it's a good thing they never call palming or carrying the ball anymore, as he does it nearly every dribble. looks very confident with the ball and is a capable distributor looked a bit rushed on his only FT attempt
Middlebrooks has a decent looking mid-range shot. also took an early 3 which did not look good. he showed some decent moves around the rim
Beadle showed his offensive skills, but looked a little out of control a few times
Tyson was solid - his shot looks even better than it did last year
Hemenway looks about the same, perhaps a little stronger? if he sets his feet, he is money from 3
Godfrey and Wiggins both looked okay, but just okay; Wiggins definitely could use some muscle mass/strength they both have good form at the FT line
Galloway also showed his chops on the offensive end of the court
the freshmen played a lot... at one point we had 4 on the court with Middlebrooks
would not be surprised this season to see a line-up with all 3 Hunters, Galloway, and Hall
very small crowd tonight... even smaller than previous exhibitions..maybe the soccer game drew some folks away, particularly students?

I agree about Dillon Hunter.

He has a chance to be one of the best PGs we’ve had at Clemson. Very talented. He played against good competition in high school, which will help him make the transition to college faster. I want to see him improve his jumper.
I’m excited about Beadle. He will have some wow plays this year, and some out of control mistakes at times too. We will have to keep in mind that he’s still a freshman.
Hemenway and Galloway are both going to make a lot of threes this year. They have become good friends and push each other well.
Chase Hunter needs to be big for us. As in making clutch shots late in close games. This is where his mid-range game can really help us.
Middlebrooks is improved. We saw some of that tonight. Ian will continue to give us good energy. Wiggins is super athletic and can stretch the floor. I agree about him needing to get stronger. He has been working hard in the weight room.
Godfrey looks like a senior in terms of his build. He’s a grown man. He will create some matchup problems for opponents this year.
Hunter Tyson coming back was a huge recruiting win for Brad & Co., in terms of talent as well as leadership. He needs to be big for us this year. I believe he will be.
Of course, we need PJ back. Hoping before the end of this month at this point. He might see some spot duty before that.

Hunter Tyson with 2 3pt shots imo is huge if he continues to be able to take it outside and shoot. Really opens up the middle for Hall to dominate and we can play a lot more outside in if teams try to pack us.
Was the perimeter passing quick, decisive, and crisp? Felt we were a bit complacent and weak last year.
What about Ian's D? Strong? Muscular? Speaking of D - thoughts on our perimeter defense. Tight pressure, sticky?
FT's not a good percentage but apparently got to the stripe often.
Lots to be excited about. This team has potential to be one of Brad's best teams when Hall gets back. Should be a good year. 20+ season imo.

Defense will be much improved this year.

Our length and athleticism is superior to what it was last year. We will miss David Collins early in the season at the wing position, but our added height at the two guard spots will help make up for that.
I’m pleased with the crispness of our passing. We can do some things on offense this year we couldn’t do last year…
This can be a really fun year.

I wish I could still care about Clemson hoops

but since the last decade of athletic leadership has repeatedly shown that being one of the top 68 teams in the country is not sufficiently important to figure into contract negotiations with our hbc, I abstain. I am 100% tiger and will never pull against us because I don’t like the coach. But if the athletic administration doesn’t think being in the top 68 matters, why should I?

That is about to change as of this season. Please listen to Terrence Oglesby preview of team especially the last few minutes:

Thanks. I've been wondering if Hemenway would get the start over beadle. He's been forgotten about in the off-season. I hope his defense is much improved, and he can do a little more than just shoot

Hemenway looks a little bigger/stronger - he's listed at 195 up from 185

Judge,i agree with you on missing Collins. That was what they needed more than anything is to have a 6-4 to 6-6 athletic guy that guard big wings. Teams with that type of tall wing at the small forward position is going to have a match up problem for the Tigers. They failed on their attempts to bring in a guy that size in the portal for their last scholarship they had available. Go look at the final decisions from Kerwin Walton, Baylor Scheierman, Dexter Dennis, and Donald Carey. They were in the final two or three to get one, but just not successful.
