A few observations from the weekend series....

VT is a legitimate top 10 (possibly top 5 team) when they are on. Great pitching and great at bats with RISP.
1 wayward pitch yesterday kept us from probably taking game 3.
VT/FSU is where we want to be...we are close...maybe not as close as some thought to begin the year.
We really struggle against good pitching, but so do most teams, we've got to be better w/ RISP.
VT had 29 hits to Clemson's 12 for the series
M. Clark is in a bit of slump, stellar in the field...she'll break out soon.
I like Russ at leadoff, her speed kills.
Need to cut down on mental mistakes and make routine plays
Val may be pressing a little bit on the mound and needs to settle down and have fun.
Would like to see Mattimore get some reps at 1st, unless she's hurt
This year is not going to be as easy as last year...no one is looking past us.
This team is a really good team and will get it straightened out...Go Tigers!

Eliminate the untimely errors and a string together a few more hits with RISP and this may have been a very different series.
VT is a dang good team but Clemson was largely its own wort enemy this past weekend.

These girls are determined to be great, this will only humble them and make them work harder. We will be ready for the post season this year because we have been challenged by some great teams.

Clemson drew and really lousy, and frankly unfair, match-up

in the tournament last year. They should have been hosting rather than playing at National Seed Alabama.

By girls do you mean players? I ask as I did not see a single post about our baseball team which called the players "boys" as gender for the referenced sport is not in doubt.

If this makes you happy I’ll say those young ladies are determined to be great!
I would reference the Baseball team as young men who have been determined to to win this season!
My intention in calling them girls is a term of endearment! I’m willing to bet in a few years they would love to be called girls.
What I imagine our girls to be & you imagine them to be must be two different things.

We're a very good team, we just lack the hitting to be a great team right now. This is still our 2nd full season of softball, so we're way ahead of schedule. I really like out pitching, but our hitting against elite pitching is what's going to hold us back.

Val doesn't seem to have nearly the command of the strike

zone that she had last year, or the shortened Covid season. Also, as this VT series rudely pointed out, she must develop a better change up. The VT batters got homed in on her speed, and were just shelling her in Game 1. She did better in Game 3, but still struggled with control.
Could it be the dreaded "Sophomore Slump"? Let's hope she finds her winning form again real soon.
On the flip side, the gal pitching for VT was super dialed in yesterday. She was Tough with a capital "T"!

Looks like we are one hurt pitched away from being a not good team.
I know softball usually rides one arm all season long, but Cagle leaving or not being effective or getting hurt would be a serious issue.
I wonder about the depth behind her.

We have plenty of depth behind Valerie. Reagan, Millie and Brooke have proven their ability in Clearwater and again during this weekend. Pitching is not our problem right now. I will leave it at that. GO TIGERS
