A comment about Dabo's salary.

I've read several comments about Dabo making 10 million bucks a year and not wanting the players to earn money and how selfish that is of him. I've read comments where he should take a couple of million dollars of his salary and give it to the Clemson collective. (Note, this isn't limited to Dabo. I've heard the same things said about Norvell and Saban and Harbaugh, et. al.)
Well, here's the difference. It's what I call "The Simple Secret of Success."
It's as simple as CPR. 1. Count the cost 2. Pay the price 3. Reap the reward
Dabo counted the cost. He didn't demand anything. He didn't say he was entitled to anything before earning it.
He paid the price. He was a walk on at Bama. He came from a dysfunctional family. He lived in an apartment with his mother while at college. He was a grad assistant. He gave up a lucrative career in real estate to take the high risk of going back into coaching. He took over the Clemson job under extremely dire circumstances. His chance for success was virtually zero. But, he worked. Worked hard. Persevered. Continued to work. He wan't given a 7 figure salary when Terry Don named him interim. He wasn't given that salary after he won the first national championship. He kept working. He kept succeeding.
And, now he is reaping the reward. A well deserved reward. A well earned reward.
See, the secret to success is reaping the reward. But, you don't reap the reward until AFTER you pay the price.
Dabo paid the price.

To be honest how can you be a fan of two teams in the same division of the same conference? That makes no sense to me. That would be like me being a Georgia AND Tennessee fan.

But, I liked Clemson before FSU even joined the ACC, much less when they became rivals.
FSU's two biggest rivals are Florida and Miami.
When I was growing up, way back in the 1960s, my dad had a Clemson buddy. He considered GT to be Clemson's biggest rival. (That was way back when Bobby Dodd was ending his career at GT.)
Can't really give a reason why, but I've always liked Clemson. When Tommy Bowden was hired I started following them more closely. I'm a big fan of Dabo, obviously. That may be when I gravitated from "liking Clemson" to "being a fan" of Clemson.
The way Bobby and Dabo handled the firing of Tommy and hiring of Dabo showed great character by both of them. Made it real easy.

there are 245678 games on every weekend and Clemson is only playing in 1 of those.
If you are watching a game.. you are pulling for some 1 and 95% of the time it is not your most favoritest team.

Dabo, Norvell, Saban, Harbaugh. One of these things is not like the other.
That would be Norvell with No Natty plus he just got raised to 10 million and Dabo is closer to 12 I thought.

Post of the year!!!!! All the people that criticize him (and other coaches) would never walk in his shoes just for the “chance” to finally earn it. They want instant results without the work

Considering Clemson's football program budget is barely Top 25,

even at his current Top 3 pay level he's still the best value in the game given our worst, down, panic year being still a Top 20 finish. Add in the Top 15's, Top 10's, Top 5's, and 2 Boom Booms - it's hard to argue that Dabo's ROI for the program isn't tops in the game.

That is simply unfair and inequitable.
Those who have more than they need should give it to those who don't have enough. And if they don't, the government should take it from them. For Equity.
It takes a village. 🇺🇦 💉 😷

They try this in places like Russia, China, and Cuba. Millions and millions of poor people, with no hope of success in this world. I'm certain you would not want to move to one of those countries.

So at the end of the semester, the student who works hard, does what he’s supposed to do in school and gets a 4.0 GPA, etc should give the party-hard 2.0 GPA student who never went to class 1 of his GPA points so they’ll both have a 3.0?

The item that people leave out is that he declined (?) or requested that part of his salary go to his assistants when Venables and Morris were hired. I believe I read that he still does this for his assistants. Of all millionaires that I can think of, he's the last one that I would imagine swimming through his money like Scrooge McDuck. He's earned every penny.

I suspect that a coach taking a couple million dollars of his salary and giving that to an NIL collective to buy players would be viewed unfavorably by the NCAA.

Personally, I think all college coaches are overpaid. $10M to be a HC or $1M to coach the OL is ridiculous IMO. It is also ridiculous to pay an 18-year-old $500K to pay football for your team. I guess it is a sign of the times...

We as a people value entertainment more highly than education or character, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, I love Tiger sports and other sports. But the salaries have become totally nuts, while teachers, pastors, even doctors, make much less.

One thing that always bugged me about Jimbo is he attended Clemson briefly. How did we ever screw up and let him in?

I used to think of Swinney's salary in terms of winning.

And that was a bad perspective.
I now think of his salary in terms of valuation. Since becoming the Clemson head football coach, the brand's value has skyrocketed.
Therefore, he is worth his salary.
And I'll go one further and say even if Clemson starts losing, he's still worth the money because the brand will likely never go back to where it was before he arrived.
It would be nice to see them win big again, though. It was hard watching the Longhorns get so close and fall short on a much, much larger budget.

Great take, Come and take it. All anyone has to do is ride and walk around the campus and look at the athletic facilities to understand the value Dabo has to the university. All of the results are a guess but if Dabo were not here, would we still win enough to put 78-80,000 people in The Valley every home game? If we had not had the success with Dabo would the ACC tv revenue be over $40 million a year? My guess is there are 13 other ACC schools that try to beat Dabo every game but thank their lucky stars he is our coach.

They are getting paid what the market allows, and what their respective school has offered to pay them.
They are simply benefiting from the huge amount of money in college football today, which is partly driven by fans spending money on tickets, buying licensed products, and watching on TV.

I'll agree a 100% that Dabo earned his reward. My complaint is that coaches pay in FB has gotten out of hand, but the people receiving that pay isn't the blame bc they would be a complete idiot not to accept it when it's offered. It's the idiot people that started offering coaches that kind of money that are the blame. It's 100% their fault that college FB coaching pay has gotten to be so out of hand. Now lets see how they would go about reeling it back in. I always heard that it's impossible to take the wet out of water, and it would be almost impossible to reel the coaching salaries back in....
