A chance to prove something

Everyone knows the Tiger football team is playing Saturday night to prove that the preseason hype and accolades are deserved and that we are one of the elite programs in college football.

But it’s been a while since our fans have had an opportunity like this to prove that Death Valley is still one of the greatest environments and most difficult places for visiting teams to play in all of college football. We haven’t had this much national attention and hype around a night time home opener since GA in 2013. It’s also been a while since we were challenged by an opposing coach. IMO, Brian Kelly issued a direct challenge to us all when he referred to our home field as “Death Valley junior”. The last time I remember taking something a visiting coach said as a challenge was when Louisville played for the first time in Death Valley in 2014 and, when asked about preparing his players to play here, Petrino said something like “We just played in the dome in Syracuse. It can’t be louder than that, can it?” That game was loud from the start because of his comments and it was loud until the end because the game wasn’t decided until the final play.

I am normally a pretty laid back person. But something happens and a switch flips when it’s time for Clemson Tiger football. There is nothing else that will cause me to willingly yell and holler until I lose my voice for 3-4 days. I’ve taught my kids that, if your voice has fully returned by Tuesday you didn’t try hard enough. We only get 7 of these events a year and this game is the biggest opportunity to prove to everyone what Death Valley is all about. As fans our support at games and monetary support are all we really have to offer. For me at least, my fanaticism is much larger than my bank account.

So, in the immortal words of Bluto Blutarski - “Who’s with me? Let’s get going! “

Sadly I know more fans selling their tickets for profit than those planning on attending. Ticketmaster is loaded with tickets for sale.

I’m also hearing quite a few LSU fan sightings in the area. We will know where we stand Saturday night.

Nothing I can do about that. Some of us are just going to have be louder than we usually are.

Go Tigers!
