can become 88's power of attorney. My man is obviously not in his right mind and can't make decisions for himself if he's wanting to get married again at 75.

Here's the deal, he's old. More power to him IMHO.

If you're 40+ and especially if married before, then the entire mechanics and metrics of dating and getting married change. See, most people like me meet some girl in college, then graduate, get married, buy a house, and have 2.3 kids. We overshot, so 3 kids. ANYWAY....

In that scenario the girl is making a gamble, a bet, based on assumptions that have yet to play out, one way or the other. What will he turn out to be? Guy's much the same, wonder what SHE will turn out to be. There is no history to fall back on, no resume, no job or career established, etc.

FFWD to 40+. You're dating a woman. She has a career. You have a career. She has kids, grown or almost grown, and so do you. You've both had prior spouses that you both married in college, and neither turned out as expected. BUT, what you do have is a resume to look at. Her career? I she making good money? Is her job safe? Is her company laying off people? Does she have a drug or alcohol problem? History of bankruptcies? Criminal record? ALL THIS STUFF, you can find out BEFORE getting married, and she can too. In your prior college life, there was no history, no resume, and marriage was an educated guess/gamble at best (especially for her). 40+ and one marriage out of the way, you're in a whole different dating/marriage universe.

I just hope he has done his homework, because in his position, at his age, HE CAN DO THE HOMEWORK and make a good choice (grade) and do better on the test.

her house. Presumably that means he's not way better off financially than she is. He wants a companion in his retirement, no big mystery there.

If they don't get along? He'll just spend more time in the garage.

He's had the career, he's had the kids, he's had the rat race. She probably has too.

Much safer bet, and very different motivations.

I didn't get married the first time until one would have thought I'd know better-age 38. She was 30. We never had kids, and never will I don't think. She's had about 2-3 different careers since then, and my career has certainly changed and ebbed and flowed. And both have us have certainly changed personally since then.

I'm not sure where you invented your example from.

We ALL get there eventually if we live long enough, where we need help.

But the question is, better to marry one or just pay one?
Probably the same thing in the long run. Your life savings are getting drained one way or another.

Best to have one that you like and who likes/loves you as opposed to a blind draw from a service that really doesn't care if you take your meds on schedule or not.

Being honest, I would likely do the same thing if given the opportunity. Most all of us would.
A dog will give you love and companionship, but ain't gonna change your diaper.

If it comes to the point that I need my diaper changed, life is essentially over, that means I'm unable to do it. At that point, it's time to check out of that situation. Its not like its going to improve over time.

If I was his OR her friend, relative, neighbor, pastor, whatevs I'd be working long and hard to get the brakes pumped like a MF on this.

Hasn't seen her in years. Last date may have been a half century ago. Couple of weeks of talking on the phone leads to a proposal, marriage, and moving in together?

What would be wrong with doing something like....I dunno...maybe seeing her one time in person? Maybe even several times, or many times over the course of a few months or heck hear me out maybe even 6 months.

I'm not being disrespectful when I say this: No prayer or religious guidance even justifies this.

At this point this is limerence, not love. It could turn out to be love that that ain't what this is.

88 needs to calm down on this one and let father time bring more clarity.
