$50 million dollar exit fee to leave the ACC

Sep 12, 2012, 10:07 AM

That ends any chance of Clemson or FSU ever leaving the ACC.

What is the benifit of this?

1, You now have another conf mandated game to play when you actually get to play ND

2, They keep their large TV contract to themselves and in turn cut into profits from basketball and other sports..

3. 50 million dollar buyout on top of it.. Some one up top needs to grow a pair

Well, for starters in 2015 when ND's deal expires with NBC

I'm positive the ACC will use ND's opportunity to renegotiate their NBC contract as leverage to sweeten the ACC TV deal. You will most likely see ND completely join the ACC in 2016 and by that time the ACC will have a MUCH better TV deal.

Agreed! If the addition of Clemson brings an additional half million per year to the conference media package for each school and the SEC expands to 16 conference members. If the new members absorb the first 20 million then each member school would simply eschew the increase of 500,000 per the two new schools for two years and the exit fee is covered.

ESPN coveted the Irish and will not reward the SEC for taking match-up mates like F.S.U., Va Tech, or Clemson. But, CBS would drool at the chance of matching Alabama, L.S.U., Georgia, Florida, or even Texas A&M, Auburn, or Tennessee with any of those three.

ND will only act in their self interest so Clemson should too! Their relationship with the ACC will be just as parasitic as it was with the Big East.

The SEC should be careful. The media has rewarded footprint expansion for a reason. They intend to divide big market states like Texas, N.C., and Va and desire that Ga and Fl remain divided. When realignment is over the footprint model will be switched to a market saturation model. The networks will no longer pay full price to two conferences for the same state. The networks will get to offer more conf. cable packages to the large markets but will divide the subscriptions by the number of conferences in that market. Hence they make more by increasing product sku's in the market and dividing the cost.

The smart move for the SEC would be to add 6 teams and stop at four divisions of 5. F.S.U., Miami, Clemson, and Ga Tech would solidify their hold on 10 states. N.C.State and Virginia Tech still gets them into two lucrative markets. They would cover themselves for both the market saturation model and footprint expansion model.
