Out of the small trucks this seems like the best one to go with. Thoughts?

Very reliable, lots of aftermarket accessories, middle of the road mpg, not the most comfortable, good resale.

I vote yes. I've got an old '03 2WD extended cab 4 cyl Taco.

still less than 200K miles. Other than routine maintenance, I've put 1 O2 sensor on it. I drive it around the yard doing mulch or trimming trees. It hauls about as much as I care to load and unload. I'm fighting the mental fight of keeping this truck, which is perfectly fine for an extra vehicle- automatic so Mrs No can drive it, very plain w/crank windows etc, or getting a new 4WD V6 automatic extended cab wit the cool fake hood scoop for a daily driver.
So far keeping the current weenie truck to have an extra vehicle has won out. But you should buy one if you ever need a truck. The argument about the gas mileage and price vs full size is BS, if you just don't need, or don't want to park, a bigger truck. As I've read here, apparently now you can get 6-way power seats, which I would do. Just Do it.

glanced at a neighbor's '01 Sequoia 4WD Limited 4 sale.

200K+, very faded paint on hood, $9000. I have no need for that.
Our '12 4Runner 4WD Limited rolls on, about 170K miles, will last till I can decide on the next gen and get a deal. Done nothing but routine maintenance and deer damage body work.

likely to go over 200K mi. Half of them were Toyota's, including 4Runner ranked high. Maybe they're reliability score vs others has narrowed in recent years, but I don't think it's gone away, esp 4Runners.

2001 prerunner with 260K+ miles on it. Bought it used in 2003 with less than 40K. No serious issues in 19 years. Keep up with maintenance and it should last a long time. I have no plans to trade at this point. I'll drive it until the wheels fall off. (and then I may put them back on and drive it some more.)
The 4 cylinder does lack power but is reliable.
