Shane Beamer needs a miracle

In the last 60 years South Carolina has had 12 Head coaches only 3 of which had winning records overall record over that timeframe was 342-337-13 (.494 winning %) Current recruiting rank is 107 out 120 with nine 3 star recruits (LAST in the SEC) LIKE BEHIND VANDERBILT LAST!!
Most of the Juniors are jumping to NFL scouts teams or Canadian football options. Deion Sanders son transferred to play with his dad... there is nobody left. Waterboys are trying out for spring ball..
Here is the good news for Beamer...He is getting 2.75mm a year... NOT BAD...NOT BAD AT ALL Ya he could get more if they win the SEC or a Natty but thats like saying he could make more if he won the lottery
That Salary puts him just above Dave Clawson at Wake and just below Cutcliffe at Duke... Thats right DUKE FOOTBALL PAYS BETTER THAN SOUTH CAROLINA FOOTBALL
So why take this job? the money of course... he was making 500k a year at Oklahoma... Which puts him 5th on the Oklahoma staff or 150th overall among assistant coaches. Pretty much the entire Clemson coaching staff outside of Tyler Grisham makes more than 500k a yr
Bottom line. South Carolina had to go deep into the well to find someone... He may be good or heck there's a chance he maybe great... I mean Lloyd Christmas had a shot with Mary Swanson...am i right? but chances are he wont be, he will be in over his head running a team. The staffs at all the surrounding schools will out recruit him, then out coach him on the field and SEC teams will out play their 2 and 3 star players Its beyond a sad state of affairs in Columbia. Apparently this is what "cycling in"-to the gutter looks like
Merry Christmas Beamer family. Enjoy the money

If and this is a big IF, Beamer fails miserably could this end UofSUK6 football? (fall below Vanderbilt)
Would they leave the SEC? Would they step down to FBS? Would they give up and close the doors on football? (UABish)
I hope not, they bring such great joy to so many here in the upstate.

Well, after the buyout of Cusschamp and most of his coaches, they could not afford much more. He decided to keep Bobo for some unknown reason. His offense stinks to high heaven. Beamer not being around the last few weeks did not help his cause with recruits. Another problem he will have are the transfers and de-commitments. They think they can persevere by get JUCOS and other transfers. That has never been successful there. Next year, they could quite possibly have a worse team than this year. Their record may be a little better because they will throw in as many cupcakes as they can find. However, I think you are still looking at a 3 or 4 win season. As a side note, the cupcakes can beat them now.

He does have one thing going for him.
Because of Covid and the extra year of elgibility for everyone, the tranfer portal is bursting at the seams because there is an extra group of players in 2021. So he can raid that pretty easily.
That being said, Jucos and transfers have rarely led to sustained success. Once you get addicted to the one off players, you lose spots to people you can develop. That is why Clemson and Bama have been so successful. Getting the opportunity to cultivate your culture and commit to a player like they commit to you (you can scoff at Bama but generally they do). Even OSU isn't this way. They recruit at a high level and still play the transfer market which then leads to players not being loyal back.
This gnaws at the core of your "culture" and what you want to do.
If South Carolina can be patient ... like 4 years patient. And give Beamer the opportunity to be historically bad while he rebuilds, they have a shot. They get SEC moneyregardless if they win or not anyway, so it doesn't really matter. But that is the only way out of the hole. Throw the white flag for 2 years, show progress in years 3-4 and success in 5 and beyond.

If he's a nice guy and does reasonably well in Cooterville, I hope he gets the heck out before they drag him down like all of the others.

If he does well he'll have plenty of better schools to go to that can pay him more. If he wins 8 games he'll be guaranteed $25M.

This is a Ray Tanner special. He dug them to the bottom of the SEC hole and then in a desperation effort to get them out, dug them even deeper. He’s got a cheap staff but they’re gonna pay for it while looking up at Vanderbilt.
Congrats Ray, just when we thought our rivals couldn’t get any lower, you asked us to hold your beer. You are the stuff of legends.

But you might want to check your math on that win percentage. Has to be over .500 with 5 more wins than losses

HOLY COW FELLAS.... Here is the math

The record was 342-337-13 (.494 winning %)
total games played 342+337+13=692 total games
They won 342 of them: 342/692 = .4942
Good now?

In figuring the percentage, a tie is considered 1/2 game won and 1/2 game lost. The numbers are now 348.5 wins and 343.5 losses. 348.5/692 = 0.5036 winning percentage.

He just needs to say all the right things to the fans and boosters and collect as many paychecks as possible.

8 games his first year, he would IMMEDIATELY be given a knee jerk reaction Tommy Bowden type extension to his contract. Then, when the inevitable reality of failure sets back in, Cooterville would once again be on the hook for a massive buyout.

You ain’t got to worry about that happening, the only teams they will beat next year are the cupcake OOC games and maybe Vanderbilt. Tennessee and Kentucky likely beat them and then there’s the Florida, Georgia types
