unwillingness to help anyone in need. If that is what you want the subject to be, maybe you guys could compare charitable giving and activity records?
What Bill is instead addressing is a policy of creating a problem of unsolvable magnitude, then using resources we dont have to address it, mostly for the purpose of pursing partisan political ends. There is no definition of 'compassion' that requires one to see that as effective government policy. Are we obligated to support all of Central America? I would assume you understand we cant, but with a response like yours, I dont know.
If we cant, how do we go about devising a rational policy that allows immigration while growing the pie? That is a question the left doesn't seem to want to discuss, but Bill pointing out that giving illegal immigrants things the average American is having trouble getting does show that we dont have one. Two people who disagree on whether we should send them scarce resources - and I could argue either side - should be able to agree on that.
Socrates doesn't appear to be the one to have said, "When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser." But you did you just become Exhibit A for it?

Bill is hollering about something that he can't prove and he's only provided a few specious photos as "evidence". This is on-brand for Bill's work.
YOU actually should be questioning Bill's post as well. If you want rational discussion about immigration, such posts like Bill's hurt the debate, especially (presumably) for your side.
Socrates doesn't appear to be the one to have said, "When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser." But you did you just become Exhibit A for it?
There's 0.0 slander in Jimmy's post. This word, like "treason," is used to casually for something that's serious.

or lack of rational policy, actually. If the first response is "you're a racist" - don't say he didn't call him that - the responder is giving up the argument. He lost. If racism has him all concerned, guess which color has the most difficult time finding things in shortages? He wants to be first to tell them, "I'm sorry, our hands are tied, the law says we have to do it"? I bet not.
If what you want to do is now discuss policy, that is fine. And if so, whether to send them that stuff is a legit question. "The law says we have to" is petty thin when the resources run out. However one feels about that, the fact that we have gotten into this situation reveals incoherency of our actions on the border.

Well, I didn't see the racist part when I replied. I thought you were just replying the other part, so thus, I understand your point.
To the second part, how do we know, despite the shipment, that this isn't tight as well? That they're short on what's needed at the border? We're just operating on one migrant worker's account.

reaction has been a weak "our hands were tied", not, "Hold on. We thought about all that. He's what we're doing." When that's the first thing you hear, and planeloads of people were flown around at 2 AM, it's reasonable to think, "Again?" But you're right. We don't know how much was shipped, how much people are thinking about this, etc.
What did I just say? People thinking about it... right. I guess we should be glad that another 3 trillion wasn't the answer.

Who created the shortage in the first place. I wouldn't, however, argue that essential to life butte plugs be rationed based on whether one is here legally or illegally. Even for a butte plug lovin deviant I have some basic sense of morality atthat one would expect prim and proper Christians to at least share as well. But we've seen what MAGA has done to the Church so I suppose I'm not all that shocked.

A mom shouldn't have to drive two hours for formula.
Mom's shouldn't have to be posting pics to fb about a local grocery getting in 10 cans of formula.
Use your brain. The illegals shouldn't be here and wouldn't be detained.

But decades of protectionist policies created a recipe for this to happen. The same policies as the America First crowd still advocates today.
But starving babies in US custody both won't solve anything, and it exposes those advocating for it as amoral monsters.
But don't let facts or faith get in the way of emotional jerk sessions to alt right memes.

Starving was the wrong word.
Mom's dealing with screaming babies that can't sleep is a better example.
Sorry, but I'm going to side with parents who are driving hours for formula, moms who can't get a good night's rest because the baby hasn't eaten enough, etc.
(My last paragraph is all in the New York Times)

it out to non citizens. And if the federal govt. is in possession of products that are facing shortages, it should prioritize giving that product to citizens before non citizens until supply can catch back up.
If all is well in the world and Walmart is stocked with Similac from South Carolina to Alaska, by all means. If American mothers are having to drive hours and form hunting teams to scour entire states looking for formula, not a fuggin ounce of the #### should be going to a non citizen via our federal govt.

drop in the bucket. Whatever supply going there will make no impact whatsoever to the national market.
b) the people OUTSIDE of detention centers have many options available to them to source formula. They may not be easy or convenient, but they exist. Those INSIDE detention centers do not. Their children will starve if they do not have formula, and that is on us.
c) you can say it's their fault they're in the center, but that doesn't change the fact that they are currently, and have needs for life-saving provisions. So arguing they shouldn't be there is basically like saying "well there never should have been a formula shortage in the first place if we didn't resort to backwards protectionism to make the formula supply chain incredibly vulnerable." You may be right, but it doesn't address the immediate problem.

May 13, 2022, 11:41 AM

Mexico or wherever, any supply the federal govt. has in times of shortages should go to citizens, not non citizens. Our govt. exists to serve its citizens, not others....I think many have forgotten this.
Doing what we are doing will also incentivize more migrants to come seeking resources, that incentive must be eliminated, particularly in harder times where those resources are becoming more expensive and scarce.
This is obviously pie in the sky wishful thinking on my part since I know it won't happen, but it is what any rational country or group would do who valued self preservation.
