Brand new A/C stops running for the 2nd time in
Jun 29, 2020, 6:43 PM

a week. Last time it was the thermostat and it wouldn't run.
This time, the fan works but it's not blowing cold air.
And this isn't a cheap unit. It's a 3.5 ton Trane that was installed by a reputable company.
What do lunge? Btw, it's 83 degrees in here right now.

they are committed to making it right. They didn't charge me last week. But I wonder how many service calls they'll make before they start blaming the gauging of my electrical connections, my breakers, etc. and blame it on that. I realize they gotta make money too, I just want it to work!

Funny thing is...my old unit ran like a sewing machine
Jun 29, 2020, 6:59 PM
|
|
...but it was 23 years old.
My dad is the one who talked me into getting a new one before the summer came around, stating that "son, you don't want your AC to go out in the middle of the summer" as the reason to go ahead and upgrade.
He provided the reference for this company and said I HAD TO HAVE a Trane. Whatever.
Now I'm texting him talking shit and telling him I'm not taking his advice no more.

Now that he's too old and weak to beat you with jumper cables, he's finally found a way to torture you that should provide him with a similar satisfaction.

Go out to the condensing unit....
Jun 29, 2020, 7:30 PM

Flip the breaker on the side of you house (so you don’t die). Open up the side cover. Usually a couple screws or nuts.
There should be a capacitor there. It looks like a silver cylinder around the size of a coke can. The top should be completely flat. If it’s domed, it’s shot. This provides the juice to get your condenser running. $20 part. HD usually has them. Repair man will charge $200-$300 to unplug 3 or 4 wires and plus it back in.

It’s called a warranty. I think you missed the part of it being brand new. He shouldn’t be getting charged anything.

Have you tried cutting it off for about ten minutes then cut it back on. If mine cycles too fast the compressor won't cut on.
